Why can I not remove a field from the customize screen?  Should I not be able to simply click the "x" in the top right corner of the field to have it removed?  It will not allow me to do that.  I will only allow me to move (drag and drop) the field in a different location and enlarge or shink the field space.  I cannot delete it.  Please advise.

When you select the 'x' button in the top right corner of a field, you are prompted to delete the field via a popup.

Did you perhaps check the "Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs" box? If so, you can re-enable it be closing and re-opening your browser.
