Hi Viret56,

I wanted to let you know that the error message posted on this thread was caused by assigning the contacts_portal to the customer table instead of the contacts table. The screen in particular had some actions associated with the contacts table so when that was reassigned, those actions cause the error Richard posted about.

If you're working on a custom screen then the bug would be somewhere in your actions. You mention this is happening on the Opportunity page? Are you getting this error on our stock Opportunity page? If not then I would look at the actions you've added against the stock page and see what's missing.

You mentioned the error was specific to the 'ContactsRef' field - your caption name for the field can have a different name than the actual field name in the table. For example, the Contacts table has a field for Entity, if I drag this dropdown onto my screen I can call Entity by the caption ContactsRef and all the actions I use will refer to ContactsRef instead of Entity.

I'm not sure where your error is coming from but I would looking into your actions and see if something hasn't changed or moved.

Apparently, this error is occurring when I try to create a new opportunity using the Insert Records Into Database action. When I include the Contacts field, I get the error. When I leave out the Contacts field, the insert is performed.

Of course, now I have an opportunity with no Contact assigned so the Contact must be updated from the Opportunity screen, which is inconvenient.

This error is occuring even though the Contact already exists in the dropdown menu I find on the Opportunity screen.

Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong? Or is this a Method bug?

I have more information for my version of the error, which is generated by an 'Insert Records Into Table' action.

I am inserting data into the Opportunity table. When I include the Contacts field, I get the error. Otherwise the action works as it should.

I tried updating the record with the Contacts field data, but I still get an error, this time referring to the field by its proper name, 'Contacts'.

When I look at the newly created Opportunity, I find the contact I was trying to insert/update in the Contacts dropdown menu. So why does Method tell me it cannot find the data in the menu when inserting?

Thought you might like to know I just received a similar error on a custom screen I am working on. The error is:

"The value 'Contact Name' was not a valid dropdown list value for 'ContactsRef'."

The contact, 'Contact Name', has been properly entered into the tables I intended.

I did not see any fields named 'ContactsRef' in the tables or screens I am working on. Where do I find 'ContactsRef'?

I need to know where to look so I can troubleshoot this error.

when our customers submit a ticket on the customer portal, it submits and we can read it in cases but the customer gets hit with this error and they keep resubmitting it until they get annoyed and phone us up saying our system is'nt working.
