You could create a new field to keep track of this or if you are doing an calculations on Man Hours you can put a check in there to only use 'Service' type job items

I am more concerned about Actual Qty.

For example, I quote a job and estimate I'll use 5 yards of topsoil, Qty = 5. I actually use 6 yards of topsoil but I want the customer's bill to reflect the original quote for 5 yards of topsoil. I want to use 6 yards of soil in my cost calculation. Where do I enter 6 for job costing? If I change Act Man Hrs and pretend it means Actual Qty, it adds to my Man Hrs.

When you create a QuickBooks Item, 'service' is one of the item types.

Also, for non-service items, what about Actual Qty vs. Estimated Qty? Are you supposed to overwrite the Est Qty?

When it refers to Est Hrs you could consider it "Est Qty".

Very helpful. The Cost field says if the item type is 'Service' it will be calculated Act Man Hrs x Cost Per, otherwise it will be Qty x Cost Per. Where are item types defined as 'Service'? JKM@SA,

If you click on the Details link next to a Job Item it should take you to a screen where you can enter Cost information. The Cost Per field is where the Cost per item would be entered. Also if you click on the gear at the bottom left of the Job Items grid you can acalso check the Cost Per field to display it on the grid.

Is there someplace in the Work Order to enter actual materials used and cost of materials? I see where you enter actual hours and cost of labor but I don't see anything for materials.
