&lt;p&gt;I use to get that message when i was using win XP. &amp;nbsp;Shut down method the wait for 30 secs then shut down quickbooks and the issue went away.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;It happens again today when I&amp;nbsp;tried to close QB I got the msg &amp;quot;The company file canot be closed at this time because there is another application (Method Integration Engine..) which is using it....&amp;quot;.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;I did a File / Shutdown and then I was able to&amp;nbsp;close QB without geting the msg.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Are they actually going to &lt;b&gt;File &amp;gt; Shut Down &lt;/b&gt;on the sync engine? Clicking the X on the Sync Engine doesn&amp;#39;t close it down.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;You can also try doing a reinstall of the Sync Engine ( You can find the full steps &lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.methodintegration.com/documentation/MethodInitialSetupGuide.pdf"&gt;HERE&lt;/a&gt;&amp;nbsp;on page 13)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial;color:black;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:small;"&gt;What is causing this, and what can we do to not get this message and be able to close QB or open another QB file?&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Thanks.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
