Hi David,
I took a look at your report. One thing that might be causing an issue is that you have some fields that go outside of the boundries of the report. My screenshot below shows the Estimate label sitting outside of the red line border. Make sure all of your fields are inside this border.

I couldn't replicate this behaviour. I just put a checkbox on a mobile screen that is checked by default, then I added a button that unchecks the box based on a conditional statement. I'll try a few more scenarios similar to what you are trying to do.
