What are the steps to take re: Method when upgrading our QuickBooks desktop software? Is it as easy as popping in disk and upgrading QB or is there more to it? I'm looking to do this ASAP.

You cannot create action sets in Method which “listen” for other events to take place. Your action set that designates the task to a user would need to exist within the same context as the order being booked or completed. Unfortunately, it’s not possible for Method to mirror this functionality. QuickBooks uses some calculations that are not available to us to create a write-off, even going as far as creating a Discount transaction type.

In Quickbooks, when creating a receive payment, if amount-due does not match payment, an option is provided to keep this receive payment as underpayment or allow me to write off the extra amount.

First off, to backup your Activity table, simply export it using the Import / Export tool. Make sure that you open the exported file with excel and confirm that all of your records are there before continuing.
