When i create a activy then change it to a work order. I even see those symboles on the work order screen and it makes the comment section bigger by adding blank lines.

The <p> is HTML paragraph tag that is not being parsed. The <p> would give you a line space before and after the tag if in HTML, but it's in plain text here. Are you able to post a screenshot of where this is happening in the report? Or provide more information on where this is happening ...

I had the same thing yesterday and found a solution. I changed the incremental sync timing from 15 minutes to 20 minutes, saved my settings, waited 30 seconds then set my sync timing back to 15 minutes and saved my settings. Soon there after the incremental sync time stamp started updating. Hope that helps.

Thanks for responding. I figured out my problem. I had created a field with the identical name in the customer table without linking it to the contacts table. After I deleted and recreated the linked field it all worked.

There is no documentation for specific tables. Most of the imports I have seen users do is with customers and leads. I do see some for activities and opportunities. There is a common process to do this to do any imports.
1. First find out what fields are mandatory. Go to Customize > Tables/Fields ...
