Inventory Vs Service Items and Estimates

I am trying to write an estimate for a service items for my company.

The inventory items appear on the estimate without any problems but when I try to put a service item into the estimate it appears on the Method screen but nothing appears on the print preview.

    Any suggestions.

    Answer

I just created an estimate with service items and they appear in my print preview.  Make sure you have a description for each item as this is used to display on the print page.  A couple of questions, is this a custom page?  is this a custom report?

The stock screens and report are working fine in this respect.

Yes, it is a custom estimate, I made the template by copying the method standard estimate and altered the file on your custome template software. The only things that were altered from the original was the logo and small layouts on the first and second headers.

I will make sure the descriptions are showing in the fields shortly. Let me know if you think there is anything in the mean time.

If you're having any problems with your custom page or report, best bet is to copy the original page again and start from a working page.  Make your changes slowly and make a copy of your page often so you can revert back if something breaks.  It maybe a difficult to figure out what broke on your custom screen or report.

Re: Inventory Vs Service Items and Estimates

So, I tried to do as you suggested. Go to the original estimate, copy and make small changes as I go, saving and testing at each change. Well I went into method and opened the QUICKBOOKS_ESTIMATE and it is not the original. I vividly remember copying, and renaming the original before making a custom estimate.

Is there any way we can have the original Method Quickbooks estimate installed on our account? Any other ideas or solutions? Please advise.

The original screens inside Method cannot be delete and modified.  What you might have done is replaced the tab links on one of your copies.  How are you accessing the Estimate screen?  If you click view from Customize > Screens then you should be viewing an original page.  If you're clicking Go To from another page and linking into the Estimate screen then that Go To tab link might have been changed.  If your tab link was changed then you can go to Customize > Tabs and click Edit Tab Links... for Customers.  Look for the Estimates tab link and look at which screen is being opened - I have a feeling your tab link might not be opening QuickBooks_Estimate.

Have a look and let me know what you see.

So I followed your instructions and under Customize, tabs, tab links for Customers. Estimates box says Quickbooks_Estimate. Any suggestions as to what we need to do to get the original estimate back? What should the original estimate named?

The original esimates page is called QuickBooks_Estimate and my copy is currently 13 days old.  Everyone should have the same copy of these pages unless you're using an older version of Method.  Can I confirm the last modified date on this page is 13 days?  If you click view on this screen you should be viewing an original screen.  If your tab link is pointing to QuickBooks_Estimate and you click on the Estimates tab link under Customers then you should be viewing an orignal screen. Please confirm.

Re: Inventory Vs Service Items and Estimates

So, I was able to recreate a custom invoice and it now displays the service item information. Two more questions, as of now the first column on the estimate is the description, how can I add the item/part number as the first column, as show in the method website. Also, there is a column called U/M. How can I remove this column?

    Thanks

You'll have to adjust the grid for EstimateLine.  Open up your copy of QuickBooks_Estimate and look for the details section - here you'll want to click edit on the EstimateLine grid.  Click next on step 1 and the second step is where to you can arrange your grid columns - here you'll be able to remove U/M and change the description to item/part number.  Let me know if this works for you.
