Screen layout: labels not aligning with data fields

    i'm a beginner.

I have created additional fields for the class table

I have created a screen and included those fields in to it.

When I publish the screen, the labels don't align with the data fields.

    How do I rectify this?

Its a shame that I can't paste a jpeg to this message then you could see what I mean

    Hi Ernie,

Welcome to Method! Are you talking about the Caption for that object/field or have you added a Label field? If it's the caption for that field then where is the caption in relation to the field, to the left, right, on top? Also, where would you like it to be? Another thing to take into consideration is how many columns you've set for that particular section. The more columns you set the closer the caption will be to the field, if it's to the left or right.

FYI - You can past images from the web, so if you use a free image hosting website. Once the picture has been uploaded you can paste the link when composing a new message using the Insert/Edit Image icon on the toolbar.

Caption? Label field? What are these? where can I find a discussion document on these?

All I did was add fields to the table and then add those fields to a screen and published it. when I load the screen, the labels (for which read 'field descriptions') are lined up one below the other on the left whilst the data fields are also lined up one below the other but to the right of the labels. However the labels are out of synch with the datafields because the height of the data fields is greater than the height of the labels.

What is a free image hosting site? And besides isnt it a real pain to upload to another third party site when it would be simpler from the client perspective to be able to attach an image to the post?

Re: Screen layout: labels not aligning with data fields

Thanks for the suggestion John, you beat me to it!

    Ernie,

I would also recommend watching our Webinars, in particular the CRM 2.0 and Customization webinars. Scroll down the page to browse through the different sections. For some of the videos you will need the GoToMeeting codec installed on your Windows PC.

In regard to your field label(caption) issue:

    1. What is the Caption location set to for those fields? By default it's set to Left, see screenshot below.
    2. What is the Number of input lines set to for those fields? By default it's set to 1. If your fields have multiple lines, the caption will display next to the first line, not at the middle of the field.
    3. Are your fields all in one cell or in separate cells?
    4. What is your screen layout like? (i.e. 1 section with all my fields, 2 columns, and 4 rows).

You can change these settings by editing your screen then editing the specific objects/fields. Sorry for asking so much questions, I can't see your screen so I don't know exactly what you're seeing.

We don't store any images from forum posts to a server so you wouldn't be able to upload/paste images to our forums. You can perform a quick Google search for free image hosting websites, then upload your image(s), then when composing a new message on our forums, use the forum post toolbar to insert the picture using the URL provided by that website. I use imgur.com.

Re: Screen layout: labels not aligning with data fields

thanks - it would seem that I have already addressed these variables to no avail. It would really help if there was a disucssion document on the power of all the variables within the method system. For example what is a section, how might you use it and why would you use multiple sections?

I see that you uploaded your screen layout - if I could do the same it would save a lot of time and ambiguous text.

I am still a beginner, but going through forums in this manner seems like a recipe for chaos. PResumably Method code is structured in a more disciplined manner?

You can also read through our Customization Help Centre Article. By going through these articles along with watching the webinars suggested, you should gain a much stronger understanding of customization within Method and how to achieve what you're looking for. Alternatively you can always request help with customization or training from one of our in-house Consultants or Method Solution Providers. If you would like to persue this route please contact your Account Manager.
