    Fields only shows in preview

    Why would a custom field (drop-down tied to a custom table) show up perfectly in preview, but not show up at all on the actual screen? What am I missing here?

    Follow-up: How do I make a field Read-Only in the Design Mode for a "View Contact" screen?

    Hi Jim,

    Thanks so much for your offer to assist! If I can figure out what I'm doing wrong, hopefully I'll be able to not make the same mistake on other fields I'm trying to add!

    On the "Edit Customer Lead" page, I've created a drop-down field called "Account Type". I can see it, and I can even select an option from it.

    On the "View Customer Lead" page, The field heading shows up, but the selection from the "Account Type" drop-down does not.


    When comparing my work on this field with other fields that are similar and pull from a drop-down on the "Edit Customer Lead" page in "Customize Screen", every setting is identical. The only difference is that I don't have the option to make this field an "Output Only". I'm assuming this is the problem...but I can't find any documentation as to why this is the case.

    If you can figure out where I went wrong, it would be a tremendous help!

    Hi there Dave S,

    Thanks for the update!

    Taking a look into your account now - I can see where the disconnect is here.

    In the Contacts app - the Edit Enity and View Contact screens are based off 2 different tables, Entity(Customer/Lead/Vendor etc..) and Contact respectively.

    On the View Contact screen - where you are hoping to show the Account_Type field as read-only like the other entity Details - you are actually showing a field called Account Type which you added to the Contacts table as well. The result being - you have an AccountType field on your Entity Table, and an entirely separate AccountType field on the Contacts Table.


    To have this information appear on the View Contact screen in the same way the other entity fields do - you'll need to do the following;

    • Add a new Linked Field on the Contacts Table - Which links to the AcccountType field on the Entity table (see screenshot for example)
    • On your View Contact screen - Add this Linked Field you've just added instead of the existing 'AccountType' field
    New Linked Field

    Ben - It's amazing how after receiving your response, I was able to fix the problem in like two minutes...but without your response, I've been suffering through pulling my hair out not being able to figure out what I've done wrong for DAYS.

    Thank you so much for explaining what I did, and how to remedy it. I have a feeling that I have a lot of new fields to create and link to now.
