Built in fields not available for layout - Customer

I am working on customizing the customer layout, adding fields that don't exist so I can import my data.  I ran in to a few fields that claim to already exist, but are not found in the field list nor available to add to a layout.  My prime example is AccountNumber in the Customer table.  Does it exist somewhere I can use or is the purpose of the field to be a back-end internal ID that I can't use and I need to make a new field with a unique name, i.e. AccountNum?  I get the error that it exists when trying to save the new field and when I customize the customer layout, it is not available as a field to add nor does it appear on the layout already.

Are you using Method with QBO? AccountNumber exisits in QuickBooks Desktop but not in QuickBooks Online. In Method for QuickBooks desktop AccountNumber does exisit within the Customer table and that may be why you are getting this error when you try to add the same field in Method for QuickBooks Online. I will have to look into this further but the quickest solution may just be to give the field a different name.

    Michael -

Yes, I am using Method with QBO.  I am OK with setting a new field, but I didn't want to waste time doing so if I should have been using a built in field that may yield some advantages such as global search results.  Please confirm that I should just proceed with a new field with a slightly modified name.

    Answer

Emily- Since there is no built in field for this it won't yield any advantages. You should be fine with going with the new field.
