American Express Payments

    American Express Payments

    We received the following email from Lucas:

    I have had 2 customers say that they cannot pay with American Express through the payment gateway. They keep getting an error massage that the payment was rejected. Could not find anything in the forum about this. Any ideas? The other payment methods work fine as far as I know.
    Hi Lucas,

    You would need to ensure that the account with your payment gateway provider (Authorize.NET) supports payments made with AMEX credit cards. For example, Autorize.NET allows payments with Visa and MasterCard CC's by default but AMEX and Discover cards need to be requested by customers (you). If your account is setup to accept AMEX and you've configured your Payment Gateway correctly in Method but only AMEX payments are failing then I would suggest you contact your payment gateway provider to investigate the issue.

    Authorize.net says that no Amex payments have hit their system for my account which means that the payments are being rejected by the portal or not passing through at all. I doubt that it is in the Amex gateway settings as I copied and pasted the account info to keep from having errors when keying it in.

    Can you please provide a screenshot or the exact wording of the message. If Authorize.NET is not seeing anything on our end then the message should be able to tell us why the payment was rejected.

    I checked the gateway settings and the transaction key for some reason was a few characters short. I copied and pasted from the known working Visa gateway into the rest of the gateways but I still get the same result. When I go into Method and click "process through payment gateway" I fill out all of the info and clickSave/new. It says that the payment has been saved but the payment is not hitting Authorize.net. I can't provide you a screen shot because I do not know how to access my customer's portal to see what he is seeing.

    Create yourself as a test customer in Method then create a test invoice for your customer. Register on the portal then login and attempt the payment with dummy AMEX info. Send me an email advising when you will be available for a screen sharing session, as well as the best number to reach you on.
