After speaking with Method support (unfortunately I forgot the employee's name), it turns out that there is a communication problem between verizon's customers and the method servers hosted at rackspace. Method support suggests that I call verizon to let them know that I can not connect to the method servers hosted by rackspace. Chances of resolution after investing my time in calling Verizon are slim so I'll just muddle along this week and hope I don't have the same issue with Method once they switch to Amazon hosting.
