    Food for thought, Landline VS wireless internet connections

    Greetings.

    I thought I would share this information that I have learned with you.  

    I had ATT business class landline comming into the office with DSL.  We had this service for years without any issues.  When I got working with Method screens would always pop up quicktly, when making chages to screens, the changes would always be there.  Making up invoices and and scying to quickbooks always worked with no errors in the invoice. 

    That was then, This is now.

    Now its Verision wireless 3G, connected to a Droid 3 as a wireless hot spot. Screens pop up quickly but some times screens would pop up but nothing would show.  This happens when im not in method as well.  Full Scyncs from Method to QBO work 90% of the time meaning that 10% of the time it hangs and when i try to scync again method aborts the new scync. If I am in the middle of making changes to a screen and then press the publish button there is a 5% chance method hangs meaning Method just stops. 

    After going though this i finaly called Verizion and after doing some tests my data connection was at 90% connection rate meaning that 10% of the time the phone is connected it will stop the connection. They recommed a wireless home network connection where they come out and put a box outside your bulding and this is suppose to help these issues.  I might try it and see what happens. They said unless you have a very clear path to the cell tower and your close by, your going to have these kind of issues. 

    just thought i give you all some interesting info.

    Thanks for sharing this useful info. I would say this is accurate as no wireless networks are perfect and are more prone to session timeouts, especially when you're running comparisons versus a wired landline. Plus wireless providers can implement filters or limits on speeds for certain types of data communication transfers since you're accessing the web through their access point(s). When analyzing wireless data speeds, latency, and connectivity status you have to factor in a large amount of variables including but not limited to the following:

    1. Distance to the cell tower(s) you're connected to
    2. Natural and Environmental factors (i.e. the weather conditions or animals
    3. The type of materials used in the construction of the building you're in
    4. The amount of subscribers connected to the same tower(s)
    5. Type of traffic being used and the amount (possible spikes in data congestion)
    6. Whether that tower is connected to the network backbone via fiber optic lines or microwave relay stations/repeaters
    7. The list goes on and on

    When trying to determine the best type of connection for your business, remember the advantages and disadvantages between wireless and wired, as well as the type of support provided. For instance a mobile data connection on a smart phone is technically not a business internet access point so only standard support is provided, where as the business line from ATT is and I'm sure they have a business support team that assists in these matters. These are important deciding factors for a business depending on what is more important for them.
