Trying to add a Linked Field

I have created a new table which I am trying to Link to my main Customer Table.  However, when I try to "add a Linked Field"... nothing is showing in the pulldown menus..they are all blank.  Do I need to create a relationship between the tables before adding the linked field?

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi David,

To use a linked field you will need a relationship between the tables this is done by adding a drop down field to the table. In your case in this new table you would need to add a drop down that references the customer table.

Re: Trying to add a Linked Field

    Thanks Michael,

Sorry, but I still can't seem to get this to work.  I have been working on this all day...and no luck.... so I deleted everything and I am right back to step 1.

I am creating a new table that I would like the "key" field to be the AccountNumber field on the Customer Table. (Ultimately, when I view a Customers Record...I want to have a separate TabSection that will show me a grid of "Things" from my "NewTable" that have the same "AccountNumber") So I am creating a new table for the "Things"... and I create the field "AccountNumber"... set it as type "DropDown"...set it to select from an Existing Table...select the "Customer" table...and in step 3 of 3 where I select the field containing choices... the pulldown only shows me 2 fields "FullName" & "RecordID"...what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks!

    Answer

    Hi David,

To be able to use a field as a drop down in a table(Key) it will have to be set as a unique field. If you take a look at the Customer table you can see that Fullname is checked as unique that is why you are able to select from it. RecordID will always show in the list since it is always a unique value.

Re: Trying to add a Linked Field

Is thereany reason why I wouldn't see the FullName field when trying to add a dropdown using the Customer table?
Similar to the example above, I am working on a new table that will use the customer>FullName field.  However, when I get to step 3, RecID is the only choice given...

    Any idea?

For anyone following this, we deteremined that there were duplicate entries in the Entity table.  If you are unable to use the fullname as the dropdown field, check for duplicates in the table field.
