    Upload Document Limits

    Hello,

One of the features we are trying to use with Method is the ability to upload .zip files and provide a way for our clients to download them via their portal. I worked out the portal issues, but now when I try to upload a 22 MB file, the screen seemingly times out.

I read previously that you limit files to 5 MB. Is this still true?

If it is, you guys have got to step into the brave new world of high speed internet and large storage drives... We have 8 users, which would give us 4 GB of storage, and I am willing to pay extra if we go over, but this MUST WORK! This seems like such a basic thing in today's online world....

If you could elaborate, I would appreciate it.

    Answer

    Hi pdx971,

You can create links in Method that point to externally shared documents on other services, such as Google Drive or Dropbox. You users would then click the document links in Method and be redirected to their document on whichever service you've linked to.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Upload Document Limits

I can appreciate that 10 years ago this might have been a reasonable solution, but today, requiring people to store files on a different server, find the direct URL, go back into Method and create a separate link to the file is rather archaic. It adds extra steps and unnecessary overhead.

Why is Method setting these limits on itself and its customers?

I understand that in the days of 14.4K baud modems you don't want people uploading a 50MB file, but today with high speed Internet and massive storage drives, it takes but a few minutes. Your setting is far too low.

You provide 500MB of storage, and with my 8 users, that's 1.5GB of total storage. That would translate into 800 separate 5 MB files. I have no intension of using Method for long-term file storage, but rather as a way to temporarily provide access to files my clients need.

I am asking Method to step into the brave new world of 2015. Please increase the files size restriction to 30MB and increase the timeout settings to allow for the upload. You could even charge a premium for this supposed "extra" service level. I'd be willing to pay a little more if it meant not having to deal with the extra steps for my staff...

    pdx971,

I'll see if there's anything in the pipeline for this, and make a recommendation if there isn't, but I cannot guarantee anything. I'll post back here once I have some more information for you.

    Hi pdx971,

I've created a feature request for this to be added to Method:New. I can't provide an ETA for this, but I'll post back here with any updates.
