Quickbooks -> Method sync, now I have a unique Customer Name for each Opportunity?

QB is set up as you would expect:

    Customer A - Contact - Jane Doe:

    Job1234

    Job5689

    Job4568

    Customer B - Contact - Joe Blow:

    Job8956

    Job5689

    Job5642

    etc

If I look in the Customer table, I should see two customers - A and B

But after syncing to Method, my Method Customer table looks like this:

    Customer Name:

    Customer A:Job1234

    Customer A:Job5689

    Customer A:Job4568

    Customer B:Job8956

    Customer B:Job5689

    Customer B:Job5642

    Six customers?

    Am I missing something?

The reason that is is problematic is that when I want to create a new opportunity, the drop down looks like this:

    Jane Doe - Customer A

    Jane Doe - Customer A

    Jane Doe - Customer A

    Joe Blow - Customer B

    Joe Blow - Customer B

    Joe Blow - Customer B

    James,

'Customer A:Job1234' is the format that Method display jobs of customers, as for creating a new opportunity let me look into this.

Thanks, whatever you can let me know will be helpful.

I copied the customers table and created a screen which shows me Name, Company Name, Full Name, and First Name so that I can make sure I am seeing the data correctly.

For every entry that I imported, I have one record where Name = Company Name = Full Name.  This is fine, it is what I expect.  In the First Name field I see the first name of my contact, which is also fine.

Then, for every entry that I imported, I also have one record for each opportunity.  These imported so that Name = Opportunity ID, Comany Name = Company Name (as it should), and Full Name = Concatenated Company Name and Name field, eg Company Name:Name.

    JamesQ,

I had the same problem, When I am in Opps or Cases screensor any where else it has a drop down list, it only showed the master job and the sub job and i could not see my sub jobs.

So what i did i created a new screen, modified the drop down list to show me the master and sub jobs.  I had to do this in Opps, cases and activities screens.  This is happening everywhere you are asked for a contact from the drop down list.

    Good luck, John M

    Answer

    James-

One thing that you could do is instead of selecting a contact from the drop down click on the ... next to the contact drop down, it will bring up a search window which will give you better search/filter option so you can select the correct Customer:Job.

I will pursue these ideas as work-arounds, but how do I get a clean import?  As I said, If I had a Company in Quickbooks with 25 Opportunites the import created 25 Customer Records, one unique Customer Name for each Opportunity.

    JamesQ,

You could filter you grids/drop downs to only display records where ParentFullName is blank, this would prevent any jobs (Opportunities) from showing.

By default each Job (Opportunity) is a new record in Method and there is currently no way to change this.

To take this one step further if you hid all the jobs(opportunities) you could then add an entity grid to Customer screens and have it filtered by ParentFullName = FullName which would show the jobs (Opportunities) specific to that customer.

    JamesQ,

To elaborate a bit further in Method CRM, you normally wouldn't be listing opportunities under customers in the customer list as jobs.  Opportunities are not people.   Opportunities are "deals" for people (customers and leads). They are in a separate Opportunities table, and are assigned to customers and leads.  Opportunities don't go to QuickBooks, only customers do.  You are free to do it the way you are doing it if you want, but know that it is not recommended, or normal that opportunities would show up in the customer list in QuickBooks.

I believe that our QB is set up using a standard format, and that I am not communicating properly.  I will not be able to look at QB until Monday.  I will circle back with more infomation about how our QB is organized.
