    Method Outlook Plug-In 2.1.29 & Attachment as a "winmail.dat" file

I was able to install the Method Outlook Plug-In 2.1.29 without any issues (I use Outlook 2007 and Firefox/3.6.3). It works well, however, I've been told by some of my email receipients that they are now receiving my attachments as a proprietary Microsoft formatted "winmail.dat" file instead of as a pdf. The attachments are primarily invoices that I send through QB Enterprise. I also tried printing the invoice to a PDF printer, saving and attaching it to an outgoing email.

How can I resolve this so that I can use the Method Plug-In and still send my Invoice files as PDFs through QB Enterprise? (Not everyone uses Outlook to check their mail.)

    Txs.

     Hi Elizabeth,

We looked into this and it appears as though it is a Microsoft Outlook issue. Please try out this possible solution, let us know if it works for you - http://www.dwheeler.com/essays/microsoft-outlook-tnef.html

If that doesn't work then we'll have to do some further digging.

    Keep me posted.

    Amanda,

Before uninstalling the Method Plug-In, I checked all of my Outlook settings as per the above document. My settings matched the recommendations. Now that the plug-in is uninstalled, everyone receives my attachements as PDFs. So, can we try plan B?

     Hi Elizabeth,

One of developers did some digging and he found that it is one of the Microsoft bugs, which said -
Messages may be sent as TNEF with a Winmail.dat attachment if the following conditions are true:

Unfortunately, this is exactly what we are doing (Adjoining form region on a mail message is basically a toolbar you see on the bottom of the screen when you write an email saying “Send” and “Address”). However Microsoft did release a fix for this bug that is supposed to work. We're not 100% sure since we weren't able to reproduce the problem of sending the email as winmail.dat. Here is a link for the Microsoft fix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958012

Here is a link we found if you would like to switch to HTML format. Unfortunately, even though it looks like its a common problem, there is no coding solution we can implement.
