Importing Data / QB sync + Custom Table/Fields

    Hello,

I am new to Method and fairly new to CRM development. I am trying to switch our company over from Sugar CRM to Method (mainly due to the fact that Sugar does not work with QuickBooks), and have a few questions on how to get this accomplished with as littlepain as possible.

I have exported a test "table" from Sugar.

In Method, I created a custom Tab, a custom table (with custom fields) and imported a test data file from our other CRM. The import completed successfully and I can see the fields I created in the custom "Prospect Center" tab, but am unable to see any of the imported entries? What do I need to do?

If I create custom fields within a table will I still be able to sync up the fields with QB later, or do I need to use some other, already established, fields?

    Welcome to Method iLs,

Did you create a new screen for this table / does this screen have a grid?

Custom fields created in Method do not link back to QB, you will have to use the already established fields in the existing tables. One thing to note is that QuickBooks custom fields are useable in Method.

Yes, I created a custom screen and it does have a grid. I added the custom fields to the grid. When I check the screen, under the custom Tab, the fields all show up, but none of the data I imported is showing up. For some reason, there is an editable text box next to the field names, which I am assuming, are for entering new data, but how do I get the existing data to show up?

Good to know, thank you. A follow up here... if I use the QB established fields, but also add custom fields via Method (which I won't need to have in QB) am I still able to sync the entry with QB with the established fields, leaving the custom Method fields in Method only? Or will I not be able to sync the entry, period, if it has Method-only custom fields? Thank you for your help, Michael.

    iLs,

That's a bit odd. I am going to suggest trying to export the contents of the table you created and make sure that it actually has data.

Those extra fields will remain in Method but everything else will sync to QB. So for example if you create a new custom field in your invoice table the contents of that field will never go to QB but the invoice itself will go to QB.

Re: Importing Data / QB sync + Custom Table/Fields

    Thanks, Michael.

This may seem like an odd question, but how do I export the contents of the table?

UPDATE: I was able to export the table, and the data I had imported was in there. However, the data exported in a strange way with contents from fields in seemingly random rows and columns. Any way to fix this? (i.e. Email addys all in one column?) Also, when I export from Method, which character set is used to for the data in the .csv?

Attached is a screenshot of the custom tab, as it is right now. Right click and "View Image" for full size.

Also, how do I insert established fields into a custom table? I was unable to find a way to do this.

    Thank you for your help.

    Answer

    iLs,

Based on the message "Currently there are no fields added to this grid. Please edit this grid in Customize > Screens and add desired field(s)." It looks like you just need to add columns to your grid. If you edit that screen and then edit the grid, in step 2 it will ask you to insert some columns. Insert some columns and then publish the screen.

To export a table you can do this by going to Customize > Integration Tools > Import / Export

    Michael,

I'm afraid I may have lost you there.

I am in the customization tab, editiing the screen -> grid, but do not see any way to add columns. Here is what I am seeing on the edit screen:

If I hit the "Edit" button it opens up a window to edit the Section, but not the grid.

Also, did you have a response to the question about why the entries are showing up in random order when I export the table into .csv instead of being aligned with Name in one column, email in another, etc...?

    Hi iLs,

The green bar that reads Prospect Managment Grid is actually a section.

A grid looks like the following (*It won't say activity grid in your case but the image will look the same)

If you hit edit on the grid you will see the option to add columns.

Also if you haven't already taken a look we have alot of webinars on customization here.

Re: Importing Data / QB sync + Custom Table/Fields

    Thank you, Michael.

I was able to add a new section, and insert a grid. I then edited the grid and followed the setup process, creating columns for each field, etc... Then I published and saved. However, now when I try to open the custom table with the grid, I am getting the following error:

    Server Error in '/Method' Application.

    Any ideas?

Thank you for the webinar suggestion, but I am unable to view any of the webinars for some reason, I am getting audio only and if I save the webinar to my computer, Windows Media Player is not able to play them due to a codec error, and other players play audio only.

    Hi iLs,

Do you happen to have 2 grids pointing to the same table?

If you are still stuck get in contact with me and I will look into this issue with you.

Re: Importing Data / QB sync + Custom Table/Fields

    Hello Michael,

Where would I be able to find this information? Currently, I am unable to access the custom module, as well as the Sales Center and Call Center (though I didn't make changes to either of those modules.)

    Thank you.
