    Image Data Lost

I am losing images attached to Item records.

I have added several attachment fields to the Item table and I have uploaded attachments to nearly 100 items.  Mostly .jpg's and .pdf's.

The images are uploaded correctly and can be seen on the screen and printed in reports, but occasionally all the attachments for an Item are "disappearing".

I am 99% sure this data is missing as I have suspected this was happening while uploading large lists of images and then finding a bunch missing, and now users are noticing that Items that had an image attached that printed on a hard copy report, are now showing no attachments.

One or the part records for Item D33166 had an image 034.jpg attached, and now this attachment is gone.

I have no automation around images such that something might accidentally occur for us to lose them.  They are only manually uploaded one at a time.

This is a critical bug as it is causing data to be lost.  The file attachment functionality has always been a bit wonky and it doesn't work well in Chrome, which is okay, but losing data is a critical problem for us.

    Help.

    James

    Re: Image Data Lost

Michael, I can reliably repeat this now.  For any item where I have an attachment, if I change the contents of one of the text fields, for example the Flask Size field, and then hit save, all image attachments are dropped.  I just did this for Item 17-11126 and dropped image 001.jpg.  This is under the latest Firefox, multiple computers, fast internet and slow.  There has always been something funny about the saving of attachments, but this is very repeatable and now any Item record I have where we've gone in to make a change has dropped any attachment data.  This is at 12:30 p.m. EST, 9/14.  I am opening the Part Detail screen as as PopUp from the Part Grid screen.  It must be a fresh session, and do not view the image before making the text change save.  Then look for the image filename in the Part Grid, it will be gone and when the Part Detail is opened again, not image.  I think the Browser is not loading the image when the part record is opened since the image is on a separate tabl and then the save function is stomping on the record with null data since the browser didn't completely load.  At least that what it feels like.  I think if the Image data gets loaded into the browser and cached, etc. the save won't stomp the record.  I've just repeated this with Item 202670.  You can attach any jpg. to 202670 and repeat in our account.  Just add an alpha character to the Sales Description field to and save.

    James-

I have been able to duplicate this issue on my account. I will update my previous internal ticket in regards to this issue.

Thanks again for the extra details. Big Smile

    Re: Image Data Lost

Whoo Hoo! I'm not alone.  We can work around this until there is a fix.  I think if I make sure to view the image on the part record before I make the save, the attachment will persist so I have a way to make changes to parts (which isn't very frequent.)  I am very confident that once a behaviour can be repeated it will be fixed, and this can go into the development cycle.  Cheers.  James.

    James,

If it hasn't been said enough already **thank you** for being so detailed with these sorts of issues.  It certainly helps us to get you the answers and solutions you need faster.  We try our best to avoid these shorts of issues but it's difficult to test every situation.  Smile

    Re: Image Data Lost

Danny,  You're most welcome.  With such good follow up on issues from Michael and the rest of the Method team, I always feel rewarded for any time spent characterizing a problem.

I agree, it is impossible to test every situation, particularly in the lab.  I'd much rather have this kind of response and the improvements that the development team rolls out than have a static product that never changed.

    Cheers,

    James

    Hi James-

The issue that you described in this post should no longer happen, let us know if that is not the case. Big Smile
