Thanks, those are perfectly fine solutions. I could also try changing my screen resolution to a lower resolution before opening the browser.

Can I edit old screens made in Method Classic with Method New?

I am terrified of losing support of my custom screens. Method has been such an incredible tool. I certainly don't mind oif functionality and bug fixes are frozen for Method Classic, I would be happy if it woudl just stay working for the next 10 years, but I fear browser updates and server side OS, webserver, and database software may break something, and at some point I might have to migrate my screens.

Object Cells in Screen Designer Jumping Around

When I am in the Screen Designer trying to customize a screen, when I select an object in a cell with my cursor the red phantom of the object location is several cells above the currently activated object. When I try to move the object to another cell it is very hard to get it into the cell I want because the ghost object will often appear off the top of the screen and then I would need to pull my cursor down below the current display screen to move the cell to a lower cell. This is using a 1440 x 900 display resolution.

This has been happening for a while now, and on multiple computers. I have tried multiple browsers including Chrome and Edge. This is all using Windows 10 with the latest updates since of course it is now not possible to turn off updates. Well, not entirely impossible.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I think an E-mail notification would be good. Although that might just send us back to trying to figure out the root cause. There is something odd about the way the engine retries to connect related to it's stored memory of the login and password, etc. And timers and counters for retrying. When I reconnect I am often just asking the engine to try again without doing anything and it connects right up. As if it just quit trying too soon or something. I'm not doing anything different when I get it to connect versus what it might do to re-establish connection. I have not wanted to ask for a watchdog since these tend to be over complicated and cause more problems as implemented by younger software developers. The TCP/IP protocol timers are a good place to start, they are much longer than most people would ever assume.

But, in either case, it's easy to manage if I know the engine has disconnected and I can just restart before a user encounters a problem. How many times have I said, oh it's stopped synching, give me a minute and try again.

Thanks so much. Now I feel kind of stupid about this. I thought I had tried doing the same thing, maxing out the rows and columns to see if they would show up, but maybe I was not thorough enough.

I think I can now just fix the field positioning and add back the fields I've already removed in the Section.

Thanks so much for following up. I'm not really sure how current the problem is. When it is happening it can go days or even weeks before it hangs up. It's not a big problem except that I don't know it's happened until someone else is trying to do something in Method and they see that records are not updated. I had just wanted to validate the original poster's experience, but not conflate the problem.

I really do think it has more to do with what's going on in the OS and QB than the Sync Engine. The Sync engine is really stable and the sync conflict errors are much less frequent and almost always due to bad data somehow created by the user. I'm very happy with the Sync Engine and I just update it whenever a new release comes out.

It is an ongoing effort to keep a Windows system trouble free and QB has become worse over time. The QB core functionality is very stable but the add on functionality like Backups or any Web based services are poorly coded and cause minor problems. I am often needing to launch QB twice since it fails to come up clean on the first try. I think that has to do with some Web service not being happy and I don't care to make it happy. I'd rather just disable all the bloatware on QB.

So, I don't think we should spend any time on the Sync engine troubleshooting for now. In my opinion it is the least likely culprit, and it's been running for at least a week or so without restart recently.

Ben,

No secrets, no problem.

The screen is named Estimate(Rev 1) in the okfoundry account.

The fields are in the Section 'Billing and Shipping Addresses'

I have removed all the other fields. So, you can see the fields in a less than ideal layout when you view the screen, but when you view the screen in the screen customization editor there are no fields in this section. But, I can't remove the section since the fields ARE in the section, just not editable in the GUI.

I have all the Billing fields in the header section, so I could do without the Shipping addresses altogether on this screen. I could just hide the section even. Or, if you can get it to delete. We don't typically deal with shipping details in the Quotation stage, but I had it there in case we had special instructions at time of quotation. We can address that in the Order Entry.

But, I don't want to re-create the Quote screen from scratch since there is a lot of automation to pull in information from the Customer List and then to copy the Quote information to the Sales Order if it comes in.

I've had the same issue. It takes a long time before it happens, but it has been going on for a long time. I have simplified my QB and Sync Engine hosting onto a Windows 7 PC that does not get shut off instead of the server solution I was using since I need to keep a user logged into QB, etc. I do not know why the Sync Engine drops it's login either. But, there are so many disruptions on any machine these days that it could be anything. QB is not very stable in the latest releases either and there is a lot of QB bloatware running. For example the QB Web connector, which is garbage, is always in the background. I can see some of these processes when I go to shutdown the machine gracefully and they are the last programs to close. My guess is that QB is really the culprit in the stability of the connection, not Method. Just a guess.

Screen Customization, Phantom Fields in Section, Cannot Remove

I have some phantom fields in a custom screen section. The fields cannot be seen in the customize screen view, but they show up on the screen when it loads up in the browser. Somehow the screen field objects have become invisible in the design view. I have tried to delete the section to start over again, but it won't delete since there are still field objects attached to it, although not visible. I do not want to delete the entire screen and start over since there is a lot of customization to it.

I have tried expanding the section for all 5 possible columns, adding the maximum rows etc. But, I think I've somehow got grid elements outside the grid with zero size. I am using Chrome. Maybe these elements show up in IE. I'll try that.

Fran, That's fantastic. Wish I had it 4 years or so ago.

Yes, nuances. Like why does QB have a Name and FullName for some tables? I'm sure I've figured that one out some time ago, but now I forget. And all those address fields that QB holds and how they print on Checks, etc. Fun stuff. But, really once you have the basic idea of the data structure, it's really easy to customize. I think a basic understanding of the underlying data tables is fundamental to being able to even make modest customizations. I think Method does a great job of "hiding" some of the ugly bits, but without knowing a bit about relational table structure, I think a customizer is hobbled.
