I'm showing my coworker some things in Method, and I've realized that I misunderstand something about linked fields.

To show her how to create a relationship between tables, I added a dropdown field in the Invoice table that linked to the Vendor table. Then, I added a linked field via that dropdown for the Vendor Phone Number.

I added both the dropdown and vendor phone fields to the Invoice screen, with the understanding that when I selected a vendor from the dropdown, that vendor's phone number would populate the linked field. This did not happen.

The linked field was grey, indicating it was not editable. However, when I created a "Retrieve value from table" action to update the value on the screen, the action was able to retrieve the phone # from the vendor table and stick it in the uneditable linked field.

But what is the point of a linked field if it does not automatically retrieve the value? I could have just added a regular new field and used the same action set.

Right now I have Method set up to use its own templates and attach its generated reports, and to send within Method. I have this email BCC to myself so I can view it in Outlook later.

But what I would really love is to be able to click a "send email" button in Method, and have an Outlook email window pop up, with the template inserted and the generated report PDFs attached, like how Quickbooks does it. This allows us to view and change attachments, keep track of sent emails in the Outlook "sent" folder, and take advantage of all the specialized email features Outlook offers. Join me in requesting this feature!

Re: Payment Receipt synch error

Argh, I'm getting another conflict, this time for an item receipt:

QuickBooks returned an error when adding/modifying a accItemReceipt record. The error was: The "LinkToTxn" field has an invalid value "TxnID=8AADC-1338574687, TxnLineID=8AAE2-1338574687". .

I've gotten the same error for two different item receipts in a row. I tried deleting the item receipt and recreating it, but I still get the conflict. The PO was made in Quickbooks, not Method, but that shouldn't matter right? There is no bill entered yet, and the item receipt was given a unique reference number. I'm sticking this in this post because I feel like these errors are unique to me, so i don't want to flood the forum with threads about each conflict.

Any info you can provide about this error? I feel so helpless right now

Edit: BTW Chad, I'm trying to get these item receipts to synch so I can test the other problem I posted about entering Item Receipts and Bills against the same PO. My suspicion is the problem occurs after the item receipt has synched with QB.

Re: Payment Receipt synch error

No. There is a unique reference number on the payment receipt. Also, it is the only payment receipt in both Quickbooks and Method for the customer.

By the way, you're using the term "Bills", but I'm not talking about Bills from vendors; I'm talking about Payments from customers.

Replacing user info changes old records.. how to change back?

We had an employee who became a Method user for about a week: Now, she is no longer using Method, and I have another employee to take her place. But, rather than deleting the existing active account and creating a new one for the second employee, I just edited the user and replaced all the information with the new employee's info, including linking to the new sales rep initials.

What I've noticed now is that some records that was once related to the first employee has now been changed so that it looks like it was the second employee who created those records. I've noticed it primarily with Activities, which makes sense since Activities are related to actual Method users, not just Sales Rep initials.

What is the best way to handle this situation? I want to change back all the old Activities and any other records to reflect that they were made by the first employee. At the same time, I want to add the second employee as a user, but preferably without paying a subscription for both accounts, since only one of them is active.

Here's what I'm thinking:

1. Change back the user account to reflect the first employee's info.

2. Create a second account for the second employee.

3. Set the first employee's method account to no longer be active.

Will these steps ensure that the first employees work history is preserved in Method? Also, which option should I deselect to make her account inactive? Should I uncheck the "Login is Active" box or the "User can sign in" box?

Thanks!

Every screen I use is custom, even if only in the sense that I copied and renamed it just so I could view the action sets and objects in the customization screen. My invoice screen is heavily customized, but my "Receive Payment" screen is identical to the default, just copied and renamed.

That being said, I can Receive Payments against invoices as a general rule. It was only this particular payment that created a synch conflict, which I copy/pasted for you above. What I'm trying to understand is why the payment receipt was not copied over to Quickbooks, and what the significance of the synch error message is.

I'm guessing that if I delete this payment and recreate an identical one, it will successfully synch with Quickbooks. I can try that if the synch error is meaningless to you, but if that works then it would be reason for concern - I want my users to be confident that what they did in Method works, and works every time!

Payment Receipt synch error

One of my users created a Payment Receipt in Method against an invoice. She noticed that after she selected an invoice to apply a payment to, the invoice wasn't marked as paid.

My guess was that Method doesn't actually mark the invoices as paid, but rather sends its payment receipts to QB so it can handle the accounting. After waiting a while to see if Method would synch, I noticed that the date on the Payment Receipt was off by a year, so I had the user change the date within Method and resave. Some time later, as it still hadn't synched with QB, I checked the conflict list and saw this conflict:

QuickBooks returned an error when adding/modifying a accReceivePayment record.

I tried resending to QB, but I keep getting this error. How can I get this sucker to show up in QB so the Invoice will show a balance due of $0 in Method? (Right now there is no evidence that a Payment Receipt was entered in Method, unless you pull up the saved Receipt itself)

Can I parse XML directly within Method (without using the API to import)?

Being a newb I would appreciate any corrections if I'm fundamentally misunderstanding concepts here

I'm using a web service call to my online shopping cart to return a list of records in XML format. Using the Method Web Service action, I can store that mass of XML text as an Action Result... but then what? Is there a way to translate that XML data into records for my Method tables using Method actions?

I imagine the alternative would be to modify my service call to return one record at a time, or even one field at a time, and use character functions to remove the XML code around the data before sticking them into tables. I also imagine that being a very painful and unpragmatic solution.

Is Method perchance clever enough to interpret the entire list of records, and map it to a Method table of my choosing?

PS: what I'm really hoping is that there is a solution that doesn't involve creating a third party app that would make the web service call, then use the Method API to insert the data into Method.

The Tables screen in the Customize tab shows you a list of tables, and if you edit those tables you can view/add fields. However, you cannot add or edit records for the table from that screen.

(This applies to you because you presumably want to add more options to the LeadStatus dropdown.)

Lets say you want to add more records to a simple dropdown table like the LeadStatus table. This table has only one field, the LeadStatus field. The easiest way to do this is to create a simple screen for the sole purpose of adding records:

1. Go to the Screens screen in the Customize tab, and enter your new screen name and click continue.

2. Follow the steps, choosing a tab to display your screen in, etc. At some point it will ask you to choose a table to base your new screen off of. Choose the LeadStatus table.

3. Now you can edit your new screen. Add a grid object (this object provides a convenient spreadsheet-like visual used to access data in your tables), then edit that grid object.

4. In the edit grid options, set it to be based on the LeadStatus table. One of the editing screens is for inserting fields from the table that you want displayed as columns in the grid. Since there is only one field in the table, add the LeadStatus field as a column. (You may also notice the RecordID field, which is one that all tables have by default and is the uneditable and unique key for the records in the table; it's not necessary here).

Other options you'll want to enable when editing the grid is to allow yourself to both edit and add entries within the grid.

5. Save and publish your new screen. Now when you go to the screen in Method, you should see a grid that lists all the records from the LeadStatus table, and it should also let you edit the existing records or add new ones, like "Initial", "Contact & Qualify", etc. (Note: deleting records from the table involves a couple more steps and using some Method Actions, so I'll hold off until you need that)
