Advice on exporting data for migration to new crm

We are working on moving our data out of Method:Donor to a new system. We want to use the classic export tool to export our customers, contacts and donations. But, we need to understand which tables to export and what fields will help us match our donations to the donor who made it. If that is not the best way to do that, please point us in the right direction.

Here is a similar issue. I've noticed this about 75% of the time—if I navigate to a donation on say, page 4, open it and hit print a letter and then Generate a letter, it opens a new window with the letter that I print. WHen I close that new window, I expect to still be on the donation I was working with but instead, the screen has reverted back to page 1! So if I want to mark the letter as sent or add notes or whatever else (make an edit to the contact, etc. or to the letter template and re-print) I have to navigate all over again to page 4 and find the donation.

I just tested this again 3 times and it happened each time. I did about 30 printed letters yesterday and there were a few times it did not reset the page, if that's possible. :-)

Hoping you all can work on this one as well.

Hi Ben!

Thank you for your response and your consideration of these items. As far as the tags on Advanced Search - that helps. Although it was not obvious that those check boxes were there because the window is constrained to a height that cuts them off. Now that I know to scroll I can see them. The scrollbar was not showing in Chrome but in Firefox it at least flashes once to hint that there is more information below. Not sure if you could autoscroll to the bottom of the extra content when someone opens the section so they can see the extra info?

Thanks for logging the sort issues as a bug. I will look at using imgur...sorry, not used to posting pictures to a forum.

Problem with sorting donations

Hi,

I mentioned this in another post but I just want to make sure it can get fixed as I don't think it's working very well - the column sorting of a list.

I'm sure this pertains to the Contacts list as well but I've been working in the Donations list.

If I am on page one and I sort by date, then I navigate to page 5 and choose a donation to edit, I would expect when I hit the "back" link that I will go back to page 5 with the same sort order. But that's not so. WHen I get back to page 5, my sorting order has been reset and I don't even see the donation I had edited. Then, when I try to sort by date again from page 5, I get different results than when I had sorted by date on page 1. This is not usable. So then I have to navigate one page at a time back to page 1, sort by date again, and navigate again one page at a time back to page 5.

Is there a way you can keep the sort order until I reset/resort myself? Otherwise this causes me quite a bit of confusion and inconvenience.

Functionality request

Hi, I am really enjoying using the software. Here are some items I've noticed would be useful to have in Method:Donor:

- When viewing the main list of Donations, the navigation at the bottom is only one page at a time. Could you please add a button to skip to the first and last page?

- In this same donations list, when you sort (by date, for example) and then you click on a donation and go back, your sorting is not saved. You have to sort again. Also, once you've sorted, there is no indicator which column is being used to sort/up/down, etc.

- When you check the "Sent Letter/Receipt/Email box could there be a date field? to note when it was sent?

- For donations made in honor/in memory, could there be a field to put the name and then have that available to use as a merge field?

- when I used the advanced search on the donations page, if I choose tags, none of the tags I've set up show in the drop-down list. ALthough I've realized I can just type my tag into the regular search, it seems like this should work too.

p.s. I've tried to add screenshots here to help explain what I'm referring to. Doesn't look like they are working. Are attachments allowed here?

How to un-tag?

Once I've tagged a donation, I am unable to remove the tag. Should there be an "x" or something to remove the tag when needed?

When I hover over the tag icon, and click the "gear Manage" link, nothing happens. Should I get a menu? I'm using Chrome on a Mac.

Hi Ben, thanks, I had used that but it did not allow me to add a logo and I was not clear how to add all the fields I need. I am not familiar with how to get to table/fields you are referring to...which is why I was hoping to get a list of merge fields. If you can refer me to the table/fields I think that will help. As far as the logo, I don't want to use Report Designer, so if I cannot add the logo here, I will just print that on my paper separately.

Here is what I do need:

- a way to see the merge fields I can use.....or table/fields

- We would like to show the date we received the donation

- I do not want to print the receipt, just the letter. How can I do that?

- I need to address the letter to an informal name - like first name or for churches I will use "Friends". Is that possible without customization? I didn't see a place for that in the contact area.

- Is there any option to add images through this tool without using Report Designer?

customizing a thank you letter

Where can I find the most succinct set of instructions for customizing a thank you letter to send to my donors?

I need to add my logo, add mail merge fields (donor name, address, amount, payment type, check number, in memory of, etc.) The send a recipt options comes close but then it shows fields that I don't want my donor to see.

After searching for this in the help menus and forum, I'm having to watch the entire set of Report Designer videos. Is this the quickest way to learn how to customize a thank you letter?
