  • Method Platform Updates - August 16, 2012

"August" version will be available later today

The following updates are now available on the staging site.  You can access the August version by clicking "Switch to the August version" when you sign into Method.

    • Big Google Mapping update:
      • We are now using Google Maps API v3.8. Using the latest Google Maps API, we can now use HTTPs connections, making mapping more secure, and also removing security warnings when moving from Method to the Map in Internet Explorer.
      • We have improved the algorithms that are used to calculate routes. The previous limit for optimizing routes was 26 stops. The limit is now 100 stops!
      • Improved interface and button styling.
      • We now give you icons to grow/shrink the map. Very useful when trying to visualize the route with a lot of stops.
      • No more need for minimum accuracy settings.
      • We now have a progress bar for optimizing the map - in case the number of stops makes it take a long time.
    • Multi-tenancy for QuickBooks Online users - franchises and companies that need more than one QuickBooks Online account to sync to the same Method account can now finally take advantage of the multi-tenancy features we had previously made available for QuickBooks Desktop users.
    • New appearance for Method tabs, to have smoother corners and gradient.
    • Added the Google Gadget link under Customize > Integration Tools.
    • Fix: Yes/No comparisons - in the case of Start Conditional Statement and other actions where there two Yes/No fields are compared to see if they are the same, the comparison would be a numeric comparison instead of a Yes/No comparison if the first value being compared was "0" or "1".
    • Fix: Mobile search box - if you were on a mobile phone and searched in a grid header, clicking "Go" in your browser caused a server error, rather than running the search.
    • Fix: The Default Resource setting for the calendar was being ignored in some situations.
    • Fix: Character Function "Get Right" was not showing the previously saved values when re-opening.

    Enjoy,

    Paul

Updated Method Integration Engine for QuickBooks Desktop

The following updates are now available on the version 1.0.207 of the Method Integration Engine.

    • Small change to error detection from QuickBooks, fixing a bug introduced by version 1.0.206. The bug was when certain QuickBooks errors were raised, the sync engine would report an "HRESULT" error when it had previously just reported a conflict.

You can get this update by either waiting for Method to automatically update over the next few days, or by (1) shutting down your Method Integration Engine, and (2) installing the update from here: www.methodintegration.com/MethodIntegrationEngineV2/MethodIntegrationQB.application

    Enjoy,
    Paul

  • Method Platform Updates - July 13, 2012

    "July" version now available

The following updates are now available on the staging site.  You can access the July version by clicking "Switch to the July version" when you sign into Method.

Note: you'll notice the July version is light in changes. The developer team is being focused this summer on some longer term projects.

    • Clear screen for new entry - now clears radio buttons. Previously, the last status would remain selected.
    • Gmail Gadget link - The Gmail Gadget is now available under Customize > Integration Tools. Previously you had to request an invite to join the beta.
    • QuickBooks Custom fields that have names that start with a number are now prepended with an underscore. This allows them to be exported from the Import/Export tool.

    Enjoy,

    Paul

  • Method Platform Updates - July 7, 2012

    Updated Transaction table

    • AmountForAccountBalance  - The Transaction table now has a new column called "AmountForAccountBalance". This gives the debit (as positive) and credit (as negative) balances for all accounting transactions to help total up the balance of available transactions.

Note: The transaction table is not intended to be a General Ledger, nor should it be considered the source of truth for accounting balances - QuickBooks should.

    Enjoy,

  • Method Platform Updates - June 24, 2012

Updated Method Integration Engine for QuickBooks Desktop

The following updates are now available on the version 1.0.206 of the Method Integration Engine.

    • Improvement to customer-level custom fields on transactions - Previously, if a QuickBooks customer-level custom field was entered on a transaction in Method, it would sync successfully to QuickBooks. However, due to recent changes in QuickBooks, the value entered in the custom field was only synced if the customer did not have a default entry in their customer custom field. If the customer had a default value in the custom field it would win. Version 1.0.206 introduces an update that ensures that the custom field entered on a transaction in Method always goes to QuickBooks.
    • Blue icons! -  we're phasing out the brown, and it was the Method Integration Engine's turn. You'll see the Method Integration Engine's icon is now blue.
    Enjoy,
    Paul

  • Method Platform Updates - June 13, 2012

    "June" version now available

The following updates are now available on the staging site.  You can access the June version by clicking "Switch to the June version" when you sign into Method.

Note: the "May" version never made it live, as we held it back in order to make improvements to the new health-check feature, based on feedback we received. Therefore, the only versions available now are the April version and the June version.

    • All features from the May version - See the May version release notes
    • Resolve conflicts - you can now mass remove all “DeleteFromDesktop” conflicts with a single click with a new "Show Advanced Options" button.
    • Bulk user creation - Under Customize > Users, you now have two options for creating new users. As was available before, you can manually create a single user. But now you can also choose to do a bulk creation of users in Method based on the employees in your QuickBooks file. A couple clicks and your entire team can be using Method!
    • Force password change – Administrators can now edit users and force them to create a new password next time they sign in.
    • Hiding inactive users - The list of users under Customize > Users now hides inactive users. You can show them temporarily by clicking “Show inactive users”.
    • Showing default franchise per user - Customize > Users now displays the franchise the user is assigned to, in the case of a multi-tenant database.
    • Longer user names - users can now have User Names that are up to 1000 characters in length, in case you want your user names to be email addresses.
    • Retrieve Password changes – Clicking Retrieve Password from the login screen now creates a new temporary password which the user must change next time they sign in, rather than emailing the original password.
    • Checkbox labels are now clickable - Previously to click a checkbox you'd have to click directly in the square box instead of the label of the checkbox.
    • Google OpenID – new users can use their Google OpenID to sign up for a new account, without having to go through the normal sign up process. This is needed to bring our Gmail Gadget live on the Google Solutions Marketplace.
    • Fix: field names now show again when editing a field in the designer, as well as just the caption. A recent update caused this to stop working the way it used to.
    • Fix: HTML Editor in 'HTML view' now takes up room as a percentage of the window height, rather than a fixed height. Previously, buttons would fall out of view on small monitors.
    • Fix: When dates are changed using the date picker, it doesn’t lose focus.
    • Fix: Customize > My Account now shows the developer contact information of the app developer. On the April version this stopped working.

    Enjoy,

    Paul

  • Method Platform Updates - May 17, 2012

    "May" version now available

The following updates are now available on the staging site.  You can access the May version by clicking "Switch to the May version" when you sign into Method.

    • Gmail Gadget beta - use Google Apps? You can now use Method directly inside Gmail. To join the beta, read more about it here.
    • New look for My Profile - My Profile got a face-lift to accommodate the preferences settings needed for the Gmail Gadget.
    • Long process health-check - if your actions take more than 15 seconds to complete, a new health-check feature will reach out to our server to give you a status update. This is also designed to help alert you to situations where your browser appears to "hang", since if the health-check comes back with a failed result, you'll be prompted to reload your screen.
    • Grid checkboxes now support the shift key - you can now hold the SHIFT key down on your keyboard when clicking checkboxes in a grid to fill in between you current click and last click. For example, if you need to select the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th checkbox, click the 3rd checkbox, hold SHIFT, clicking the 6th checkbox will automatically select the 4th and 5th as well.
    • Highlight grow row - when you hover over a grid row link the row temporarily highlights.
    • Fix: portal session timeouts – if a portal session becomes invalid, your customers now get sent back to the portal login screen they came from (either the email login screen or user name & password login screen). Previously it would always send you back to user name & password login screen in this situation.
    • Fix: "invalid session" - if you were signed into Method for more than 24 hours you'd be forced to sign back into Method again. This also happened when more than one user was logged into the same browser on the same computer into the same company account at the same time (only common during customization). Both these issues were inadvertently caused by security improvements in the April version.
    • Fix: can no longer rename "Contacts_Portal" - previously we allowed users to rename the "Contacts_Portal". This caused too many problems, especially in areas referenced the portal by name.
    • Fix: deleting screens that are referenced - previously if you made a copy of a screen and replaced references from the old screen with the new screen....problems could be caused if you then deleted the new screen. This has been resolved.
    • Fix: Create Short Method URL - editing this action in the designer would mistakenly give a message "Please choose which contact this opt out is being sent to." when generating a portal link.
    • Fix: removed the tab link hover names from within the portal - your end customers don’t need to see that information.
    • Fix: prevent invalid user email addresses - a validation check is now made to ensure that the email address entered under Customize > Users is a true email address.

    Enjoy,

    Paul
