    Dropdown field

How do you create a dropdown field in a grid?

In the new work order screen, in the job item grid I want to create a new dropdown field that will let me choose from fixed asset items

    Answer

    Marcelo,

To create a dropdown field, you should start in the Customize>Tables/Fields tab link. Find the table that you would like to add the dropdown field to, in this case probably the ActivityJobItems table. Click into Edit Fields... and from here the Field Type option will let you choose a new dropdown field. Follow the dropdown wizard.

Remember that if you create a new dropdown field it will automatically create a related table and screen by the same name. If you wish to add/edit the selections in your dropdown read this article from our Help Center. Once you have your dropdown created in the correct table you should be able to add the field when editing the FieldService_AddEditWorkOrder screen.

    Hope this helps!

    Re: Dropdown field

    Thank you.

I am working on a new screen to assign work orders to equipment. So we can keep track of all our maintenance on our trucks, mowers, blowers etc.

I have all my equipment in QB as fixed assets.

So I am thinking in the grid of the new work order screen I have the job item column that I can filter so only service job items will show, next to it I can create a new column that will show the fixed asset items only, so that way I can link work orders to the equipment.

    Does this make sense?

    Will it work?

    Glad to help!

Through some customization this is definitely possible. Just make sure your new fixed asset dropdown field is in the table that the grid is based on. Post here if you get stuck with anything.
