    Sort order

How do do change the sort order in the entire series?

I was able to change it on one ocurrence, but I can't on the entire series

    Answer

    Hi Marcelo,

When you are viewing your Work Order List screen you should see one column called Edit... and another called Edit Series... (see the attached image). If you click Edit Series... on an occurence record you can directly edit the related series. If you click Edit... you will be editing just the individual occurence. In the pop-up screen click the Additional Settings tab and you should see the field where you can edit the Sort Order.

    Re: Sort order

That is what i did , and is not working for me.

Let's say I have a series with 20 ocurrences and the sort order is 1, and I want to change it to 2, I click on edit series, go to additional settings, change to 2, save and close, and I go to the work order list and refresh, but nothing changes.

    Answer

When you make any kind of change to an occurrence Method will break that occurence from the related series. Once the occurence is broken it will not update along with the unbroken occurences if you update the series. The reason for this is if you have changed a specific occurrence you may accidentally lose those changes by changing the series.

It is possible that you have changed all of the occurences within your series which could be the reason why none of your occurences are updating with the series. To update the sort order for all occurences (including the broken ones) in a series you may have to go into each occurence to make the change.

If you would like to restore occurrences and attach them back to their series you can do so with the Restore Occurrence action. Just remember you should be looping through the grid and selecting the occurences you would like to change if you want to update them on mass. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need some clarification.

    Re: Sort order

Would it be possible to assign the sort order to the customer's name instead of the work order?

That way every work order for that customer will have the same sort order

    Answer

Yes. You can assign any Sort Order value to any series or occurrence. However, we currently do not have a default button to assign a Sort Order value to all of the work orders from a specific customer.

I would suggest filtering your work order grid by the Customer that you would like to change and then manually changing the sort order for each series/occurrence related to that customer. Alternatively, you could create a custom button that loops through your grid and changes the Sort Order for each record that meets a specific criteria (ie. Name).

The best option would probably be to create a new field in the Customer table for Sort Order and link the field to the Activity table. This would require some customization in the Work Order List screen to use the field correctly. Let me know if you would like me to expand on that solution.

    Hope this helps!

    Re: Sort order

I think that best for me will be to filter the grid with the work orders I want, select the ones I want to change and have a botton in the update selected work orders.

    Will this work?

And can you guide me with the actions needed?

    Answer

    This will work for sure!

Add a checkbox object and the Sort Order field to the Update Selected Work Orders… section of the FieldService_WorkOrderList screen. Next you need to add actions to the Update Selected Work Orders… button to actually update the Sort Order field in the table. Take a look at how the other actions are set up in the button. The new actions will follow the same pattern. Make sure you include Conditional Statement actions and an Update Field in Table action.
