    Switching from QBD to QBO

Hey guys, as you know I have had my Method account customized heavily over the last few years. I am considering switching to QBO so that everything is in the cloud and I do not have to rely on a local server anymore. We are also switching to Office 365, so at that point, all of our files and mail will be in the cloud as well.

    I have 2 questions:

    1. QBO has a database size limitation so I am not able to convert my QBD database to QBO. Is it possible for me to just create a new QBO account and then once I have it active, I could do an initial sync with my Method account, which would bring the data from Method into QBO?

    2. What are some of the problems I face with making this switch to QBO with all of the customization I have had done over the years with my Method account?

    Thanks for the help,

    Answer

    Hi handcrafted,

The Method for QBD and Method for QBO tables/screens are different and the QBO authentication functionality does not exist on Method for QBD accounts, therefore you won't be able to sync Method for QBD data to a QBO account. Additionally, we do not recommend importing screens from one type of Method account to the other, e.g. importing Method for QBD screens into a Method for QBO account, as they won't function correctly since the tables are different.

    Thanks Ashur.

So, what is the best way for me to migrate from QBD to QBO.? I am trying to sawitch everything the cloud.

Are you saying that I need to start over? Surely there is a way to make this happen without too much hassle.

    Thanks

    Answer

If you're looking to migrate custom tables/screens from Method for QBD to Method for QBO, the only way to that now is to manually recreate each screen as the data structure between QBD and QBO is different. Reference numbers and the way they are referenced are different. Intuit is releasing V3 of their IPP platform (QBO API) in late 2013 so this might help as it will have a common data set. However, we'll need to find a way to migrate the data from a Method QBD to QBO account.
