    Birth Date Issue

I feel like I am missing a very simple solution to this... but I have been working on it for 30 minutes to no avail.

I would like to add the BirthDate field to my EditCustomer Screen.  When I tried to create a field called "BirthDate" it said that one already existed.  I know it exists as a field because it shows up in the Contact table.  However, I cannot find where to add it to the Customer Table or the EditCustomer Screen.

I have successfully added it to the ContactsList... but there are not entries because I cannot find a screen that lets me enter the Birth Date.

    Suggestions?

    Hello Meghan,
I was able to re-produce the problem.  The Entity table houses fields for many child tables, some being Contacts and Customers.  Hence, you already have the field on the table through inheritance.  Quickbooks doesn't allow you to have it on the screen and allow you to use it only with employees not customers who are companies, if I am not mistaken.
There are work-arounds.  The recommendation is to create a custom field in Quickbooks and link it to Method.  This is a customization.

I will look into it more, but this is a good start.

Thank you, Greg.  Does it help at all that I don't need the Birthdate to show up in Quickbooks?  I only need it for compliance issues with our summer camp.

With this in mind, is there an easier way to do this?  Should I just make a new field called BirthdateCamper and put that on the EditCustomer screen?

    Thank you for your time.

While I'm at it... is it possible to edit the Employee Screen with more fields such as tracking whether or not they have their immunizations?  Again, I do not need this info to transfer or sync with Quickbooks.  Just need to track which of our staff have their immunizations up to date.

    Thank you!

    Hello Meghan,

It should be possible to track immunizations.  You can add a field to the Employees table and add it to the Employee List view.  The one problem I did run into was that my QuickBooks Online did not allow me to save or change employee information, but my QuickBooks Desktop version did.  You will have to try it out and see if your Quickbooks version allows you to save Employees from third-party software like Method.

    Greg -

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like QuickBooks Online allows Method to save new fields for employee info. It keeps trying to syn and fail.  I was just wondering if it was possible to make a field in the employee table that doesn't try to sync to QBO and so hopefully work around the error message that it cannot sync.

    Is this possible?

    Re: Birth Date Issue

    Hello Meghan,

I didn't see the double post, so here is the answer to your BirthDate inquiry.   In essence, yes, you can add a field to the table, call it a different name like BirthDateCamper and use it in the screen.  It won't be in QuickBooks to sync, but you can use it in customized reports in Method.

I see you have two options. The Customer doesn't have a birthday because it is usually a corporate entity.  Method users will use people's names for the customer names to keep accounts straight.  With this in mind, the parents can be customers and have children tas contacts.  In this situation, you can put a BrithDateCamper in the Contacts table.  If you are using each camper as a Customer, you can put the BirthDateCamper onto the Customer screen.  Remember to update the NewCustomer screen as well.

    Re: Birth Date Issue

I was curious and tired it.  I couldn't get it to save/sync myself.  My idea would be to create a new table called Immunization (with screens) and link it to the Employees table. It would have a dropdown to Employees and a checkbox/YesNo field labelled Immunized.  This may work in keeping records of immunization.  You could also have type of immunization and date and where the person was immunized.

    Re: Birth Date Issue

Thank you, Greg.  Got this to work by adding BirthDate Camper to the customer table and screen.

Now if I could find a way to add fields to the Employees that don't try to sync with QBO, I'd be all set.
