    Google Gadget and Cases

I want to be able to associate an email with an existing case from Gmail.  However, doing so triggers an automatic email to the client with the case update email.  Where do I turn that off?  (Or can I?)

    Answer

    Hi Victoria,

There is a checkbox within the Edit Case screen in Method called Email Case notification to contact when saving. If this is unchecked then the related contact will not get notified by email. If this checkbox is checked however there is an option within the Google Gadget to override this setting and stop the notification email from being sent.

First, open the Google Gadget within the email of the desired contact. Add an activity to an existing case, type in the activity comments, and then enable the Edit details? option. If you scroll down you will find the checkbox labeled Add to dialog and email contact?. Uncheck this box and the contact will not be notified by email.

Note: If you uncheck Add to dialog and email contact? in the Google Gadget the notes will be added to the activity but not added to the Case dialogue. At the moment these two options cannot be seperated within the Gadget.

    Re: Google Gadget and Cases

    Hi Jason,

So what would the work around be here to associate the activity with a case?  First add the activity, then go to Activities tab in the gadget, select the one just added, and associate it with the case?  That seems rather clunky - and I'm having trouble convincing my users to do it.  Any chance that those functions (add to case dialog, and email contact) can be separated in the future?

    Thank you!

    Re: Google Gadget and Cases

    Hello,

Sorry for the late reply.  You can't associate and activity with a case once the activity has been created.  You can view activities and create new activities on cases, but not attach an activity to a case once it is created.  There isn't a work-around per se.  The Gadget is configurable and not customizable.

We may in the future separate the functionality of emailing and internalizing activities for cases I haven't heard of any plans to develop on the Google Gadget in the near future.
