    Entering customer and contact information

    My question/concern is the way data is entered and displayed on the the main customer/company/contact page. For instance, if I go to the customer edit tab to enter data and I enter the customer name on the left and then enter the contact name on the right, The "Contact" name appears on the top line of the company/customer/contact page and the "Customer" is on the second line. The issue with this is that that file is saved in alphabetical order based on the Contact name not the Customers name; that does not make sense to me. What it has forced me to do is put the "Customer" name in both places in order for it to be saved and displayed in alphabetical order of my customers as it should be.

    Hello,
        I've had a similar question on the Help Line and seen other customers customize the list to their own advantage.


        The Customer and Contacts List is a list of Contacts sorted by default alphabetically.  With customization, you can either change the sorting order and/or add a new column.  To modify the sort on a grid, copy the screen and open the Contacts grid Edit menu in hte screen designer.  On Step 4, you can change the sorting order for the grid. (By default, it is sorted by FullName/Contact name alphabetically)  To add a new column to a grid, go to Step 2.  For your case, you may want to replace the FullName column with a Company field column.

        The default Contact/Customer/Company field is actually the FullName field for Contacts that is overridden by an SQL command. You can find this command in the 'Advanced' screen for the FullName column.  This is how it appears to be three fields in one.
