Editing invoice template in report designer

Hi, I'd like to change what our invoices look like when we print them out. I'm in Method's report designer and I'm using SimpleInvoice as my starting point for editing. I've created a new screen Invoice(2) where the print preview button is set to launch my new invoice design titled SimpleInvoice(2). Some things aren't showing up the way I'm expecting to. For example, When I hit print preview, Invoice Date [TxnDate] keeps showing up fixed as Sept 10, 2007, customer info auto-populates the first alphabetical name in my customer list everytime, and the same 3 line items show up instead of the items from the invoice fields. Am I missing a step during my report designing? I'm designing on a workstation that does not run the Method sync engine, if that is affecting anything.

    Hi Andy,

I’ve actually run into a similar situation where the print preview option does not always reflect a true print preview. Can you do me a favour by saving the report and running it in Method? Does it show up correctly there?

I can’t recall every step I took since it was a while ago, but I removed the field that was giving me issues (careful not to lose any scripts or other features) and added it back to the report. This seemed to solve the problem then and maybe it will work for you too.

Please post back and let us know.

    Hi Valbon,

I created a second 'invoice" screen within customer center to test this. I had the print preview button on the screen point to the new report. I get the same thing: print preview screen opens up with 100+ pages of invoices with dates and products randomized. Let me know if you have any ideas for what I can try.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Answer

    Hi Andy,

I think this is happening because you may not have a filter set on your Generate Report Action. Edit the action and make sure the following is set for Filter Report.

    Filter Report

    Tables of Report               Invoice
    Fields in Table                  RecordID
    Condition Statement        Equal to
From                                   Value from Session         Current Screen Active Record ID

    Yes! That worked. Thank you.

Here's another one for you guys. When I print preview, in both the designer and in Methods, I get blank sheets after each page of an invoice. I'm sure I just accidentally did something while I was editing from the simpleinvoice template. Do you know how I can get rid of the blank pages?

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Andy,

I'm glad to hear that. Big Smile

Sometime if field is crossing any of the page margins it causes extra pages to be printed. If any of the margin lines are red it means that an object has gone outside the margin.
