    Desktop shortcuts

Is there any way I can create a desktop shortcut that will automatically log me into Method and load the Opportunity screen?

When a customer calls, I don't always have Method open. It would be nice to quickly load to the page I want, rather than have to perform several steps while the customer is on the phone.

If a desktop shortcut wouldn't work, is there any other way to speed up this process? Thanks!

    Hey there!

If you are currently using Mozilla Firefox, there is a nifty tutorial here: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Creating%20a%20desktop%20shortcut%20to%20a%20web%20page on how to create a desktop shortcut for a webpage.  Also, there is one for internet explorer located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/168124

You have a few options on what URL you would like to use.

    1) I would reccomend using MIURL in order to bring you directly to your customer screen.  If you are not familiar with building a MIURL link, check out our blog post about it here: http://miurl.cc/3g4T3g.  Make sure when you are creating your desktop shortcut that it is currently pointing to the MIURL link, and not to the method website itself.  MIURL is smart enough to know if you are currently logged in or not when redirecting you to the screen of your choice.

    2) The second option would be to bring up the Method Login page and create a shortcut on your desktop from here: http://www.methodintegration.com/method/login.aspx . However, you would need to relogin to Method every time you used this link, and it would take you to the default tab.

    3) The third option would be to login to Method then to use the current logged in page as your link (this wont bring you to a specific screen within method, just the landing page).  I wouldnt reccomend this route, because you would have to keep extending the same method session everytime you were logged out.  If you or anyone attempted to login from the main page again, a new session would be created and your link would become useless.

    Cheers!

    Hello SpaScpes,

If you have CallerID from your phone company and a Caller ID capable modem, you may want to try YouRang. YouRang is a Method application that uses the Caller ID information from an incoming call to see if the number matches an existing customer and if so, opens Method to their account. YouRang is currently in Beta, so it is free to try out. You can find more information at http://www.techinthefield.com/YouRang.html

Great idea, I thought about this a while back and wished it was in existence. :)

I use RingCentral, which is an IP phone service. Would it work with this?

    Thanks,

    Greg

    Re: Desktop shortcuts

    Hi Greg,

If you use one of their APA (Analog Phone Adapters) so you can plug in a standard phone, then it should work. All you would need to do is run a phone line from the APA to your computer's modem. If you just use their softphone, it will not currently work because it doesn't use MS TAPI.
Their website says it has the capability to pass the Caller ID info to another program, but when I called their support they didn't know anything about it. Hopefully they will be adding that feature soon. We use Ring Central for one of our companies and I will definitely build in the capability for YouRang to work with Ring Central's softphone as soon as Ring Central makes it available.

My phones are all IP based unfortunately. I'll be looking forward to when it works. :)

    Hi Greg,

Good news! I was able to get You Rang working with Ring Central soft-phones!

It does require the installation of an additional component to allow the 2 programs to talk to each other, but once its setup the first time you shouldn't have to worry about it anymore. If you would like to give it a try, I've added intructions on how to set it up at the bottom of the page: http://www.techinthefield.com/YouRang.html please let me know if you have any questions.
