Custom fields on Item Receipt

    Custom fields on Item Receipt

    In QB, I have custom fields for my Items.  I would like to be able to show some of those custom fields in an items list. Can I do that? I didn't see the custom fields in the Items List in Method.  If so, I wasn't able to figure out how to add a table to the Item Receipt screen.  Thanks!  Monica

    Hi Monica,

    If you add a custom field to your QuickBooks items it should come over to Method. You can verify this by going to Customize > Tables / Fields and editing the Item table. You should see your custom fields listed there. To add these custom fields to your screen you would need to edit the grid on the Sales Receipt screen and add them as columns.

     Hi Michael -

    It's an Item Receipt (as in receiving inventory), not a sales receipt. When I look at the Items table, it's there. When I edit the item grid in the Item Rec't, my custom field is not an option.  If I edit the grid on the Item rec't for Items, on step 2 of the wizard for inserting a column, the custom field does not show.  If I go to edit an existing field (like Item) and select Advanced, the custom field shows. What am I missing?

    Hi Monica,

    I tried adding a custom field to my Item Receipt in QuickBooks to see if it would come over to Method but I can't find the location where I can add custom fields to item receipts in QuickBooks.

    One option in Method is to add a linked field to the ItemReceiptLineItem table that links the custom fields using the Item.

     Hi Michael -

    I tried and wasn't succesful. Does the Item rec't have to have a PO?  The purpose is to get items into inventory, so when we're doing historical entry, often we'll go straight to the Item rec't. Does the custom field have to contain data in the original form?  I got an Invalid column name  error action code 10 saying it has to be in the table. The custom field exists in the item table and I put data in the field in QB.

    Frustrated!

    Hi Monica,

    How did you add a custom field to your item receipt in QB(I can't seem to do it)? What version of QuickBooks are you using?

    Which screen is giving you the error action code 10? What steps are you taking to produce this error? If you are working with a custom screen does the same thing happen on the orginal screen?
