    Sync Engine issue

    Hi:

We upgraded to a new computer and we need to move our Method account to this new computer which will be the main computer with admin rights (using same company file in QuickBooks as before).

We went online into Method under the administrator and under the QuickBooks tab we clicked on the Reset for Computer to Sync with and then did a full synchronization (right from the Engine itself) once it was connected.  After doing a sample test in both Method and QuickBooks to make sure changes were being done in real time, we then went to install the method engine on second computer.

Here is the issue.  On the second computer when we try to connect to our company file it gives this message in the engine:

"Warning: Could not start QuickBooks / QuickBooks is closed"

QuickBooks is open – not closed on the new “main” computer.

We also test installed method engine on a computer outside our offices to see if that made a difference and same issue.

What do we need to do to resolve this issue to be able to synchronize to our QuickBooks file?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi Shirley,

Is QuickBooks open on the second computer that you installed the sync engine on? If so is it pointing to the same company file that the main computer is pointing to?

    Re: Sync Engine issue

     Hi Michael:

No, I don't have QuickBooks open on second computer.

The Method engine should be pointing to the QuickBooks on the first "main" computer right?  I am wondering if when we reset the Computer To Sync with:  (Even though it shows the new computer it did not actually reset and is looking at the old "main" computer which is non existent now, is that possible?)

If I did have QuickBooks open on computer 2 and tried connecting then I get this error:

    4/15/2011 12:35:31 PM Warning: Error in OpenConnectionBeginSession, HRESULT = -2147220456 (80040418);
This application has not accessed this QuickBooks company data file before.
The QuickBooks administrator must grant an application permission to access a
QuickBooks company data file for the first time.; iContext=30

Which I understand I would have to then check the Integrated applications properties for both the engine and the listener and match them to the "main" computer.  I would think this would not be necessary because the sync engine and listener is connected to the "main" computer and should not even be looking at the QuickBooks on the second computer (even if it is open)?

Pardon me if I am not understanding correctly.  But, I don't know what else to try.

    Answer

    Hi Shirley,

For the Method Integration Engine to work QuickBooks has to be open on the computer that the Engine is installed on. The 'Main' computer's sync engine will take care of the Full Syncs and Changes-Only syncs and the sync engine's on the other computers will get put into listen-only mode and listen for changes in in QuickBooks to push up to Method. Is there a particular reason why you want to have the sync engine running on the second computer and have QuickBooks closed?

    Re: Sync Engine issue

     Hi Michael:

It was my misinterpretation as to what to do with the sync engine on computer 2.

I was adding the account name - user name and password in the sync engine on computer 2 because I thought that was necessary to be synced to computer 1 "main computer".  After reading your message, I went back and did a test change within Method (without adding account info) and then checked to see if the change showed up in QuickBooks and it did.

    Thank you for your response.
