Michael,
We don't normally add estimate lines manually, we usually copy the items from other estimates. Today however, I had the need to add an item manually and noticed it didn't look right. I remembered seeing this post and thought it might help. After digging into it further, it doesn't appear that the sales price is always entered into the cost field.
The item I manually added is setup in QB with a cost of 1.82 and a sales price of 3.00. When I added it to the estimate, the cost field showed as 1.82, it then calculated the markup percent to get the sales price of 3.00 which showed correctly. To make sure I wasn't losing my mind I checked the actions for the Text change for the item field in the estimate line grid. The actions seem to confirm that it will determine if the sales price is more than the cost and if so enter the cost onto the estimate line grid, not the sales price. From what I can tell f there is no cost entered into QB, then it will enter the sales price into the cost field in the grid.
If that's the case... Damcan would want to keep the rate/cost field on the grid and just change the actions for the item field to only enter the salesprice into the grid.
I was just a bit confused on this matter myself and wanted to share what I discovered as it might help Damcan with what he is trying to do.
