We have a custom designed color coded bar tied to item selections on the Sales Order Screen that prints out on a modified sales order report.  I have modified the text on both the screen and report to change the item name from a previous name (done to reflect our brand changes).  While the text change has taken hold and prints out correctly, the color coded bar does not save on these changed items.  When you go back to the sales order table to reopen a sales order with brands where the name has been changed, the item color bar from the last viewed sales order appears in lieu of the bar that had been previously selected and saved on that sales order.

Is there some programming I can do on the item code so that these newly renamed items save the color bar correctly?

This may be an issue that has to be addressed through paid consulting since it looks like you have done alot of customization and it would require someone to actually look at the screens and changes you made. I am not sure how you are saving the colour information but if its in a grid or in a field on the screen and its not a linked field that data entered in there should save properly using a save action.
