    Importing Errors

    Hi,

I made an export of an ItemInventory table (including RecordID, AssetAccount, IncomeAccount, SalesAccount), made some changes to items (didn't create any new items), and tried importing after having saved.

I selected "Update existing records by matching key fields" and chose RecordID. (all the fields matched what was in parathenses about them- they were spelt write in the file). The data wasn't flagged bad when I passed it through- I was able to click "import data" and it went through the import and came back with a few errors, all saying the same thing:

"Error: Save Warning: The Item could not be sent to QuickBooks. This Name is already in use. Please edit the Name so that it is unique and save again."

I don't understand the error though because I had a RecordID to reference an existing item.  I don't WANT another item, but wanted to save the changes I've made.

However, this didn't happen with all items I imported. Any ideas?

    cpitts,

The FullName field has to be unique among all the rows, which may be the cause of this issue. Also you may want to export the item table and make the changes there, ItemInventory is essentially a view of the Item table it's a subsection of data, so the FullName must be unique when compared to the Item table.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried importing into the ItemTable instead, but I'm having the exact same issue arise.

I did notice that it wouldn't let me update FullName, which isn't a problem, but everything else matched up the way it was supposed to and is coming back with errrors.

Any other ideas for why I'd be getting that same error notification?

    cpitts,

Name will end up becoming FullName, it should flag the records that are showing up as duplicates. Take the name of the duplicate and search for it in the Items list in Method and see if it comes up with any results.

    Re: Importing Errors

That helps a lot- they are all duplicates in one regard.  However, I have an item called "201-m-mbl-lg", and I have an item called "prep:201-m-mbl-lg".  The second obviously being an item called "prep", with the subitem being 201-m-mbl-lg.  201-m-mbl-lg and prep:201-m-mbl-lg, again, have different RecordID's though.  How can I edit information for the latter?  Just remove one of them from the import doc. before the import?

    cpitts,

You should be able to have to objects with the same Name, because since its a subitem the FullName will be composed of both the Item and Subitem name. You could also just remove the items from the list that you don't want update before the import.

    Re: Importing Errors

    Michael,

I've abbreviated my item to just a few items that I want to update. I'm using the Item table and have no conflicts, but it's coming back saying this same error message.  These items do have a duplicate as a SUBITEM, but that's it.  I also checked to see if there was duplications of these items that were inactive.  There weren't...

    What else can I try?

    cpitts,

I am going to need to test this out even further. I think I am able to duplicate your situation, and want to confirm a couple of addtional items.
