Is there a field which will take hard returns?

Hard returns to create formatting which will pass through to a report?  I am thinking of it as a way for a user to enter multiple lines for one record, without having to create a linked table.

    Answer

    James -

If you edit the field in the designer, click Advanced Options, and then set the number of input lines to something other than 1, then you'll get the new lines you are looking for.

While there, if you want to get really fancy, you can actually switch the "Show in HTML Editor" on, and you can display rich html in the report designer (see item 5 in this blog post: http://www.methodintegration.com/cs/blogs/methodblog/archive/2011/03/30/quickbooks-crm-chrome-firefox-ie9-safari.aspx)

So........you've got LOTS of power here.

I have the field set up properly and I can enter formatted lines.  Great!

When I go to the Report Designer I do not have HTML as an option under Data Bindings.

    Hi James,

This option applies to Rich Text fields and is not avalible for labels.

This confuses me.  What is a rich text field?

EDIT: searching this forum for "rich text field" yields two results, this thread is one of them.

EDIT 2: I see now.  Insert the Rich Text field, then bind it to the field in the table.

    James,

Maybe its better to think of it as controls or objects

In the report designer if you look to the left you will see a bar(Tool Box) with controls/objects that you can drag onto the screen, you should see Label and Rich Text in the Tool Box.

You can drag a Label control or a Rich Text control onto your report and data bind a field from the table to that control. A Rich Text control is more robust then a simple Label control. When you drag a field from the Field List by default it adds the field as a Label control to the screen.
