    Merchant Gateway-Card Swiper

If I set up the merchant gateway in method can it interact with a card swiper on the local machine?

It may work but it would depends on the card swiper, if it reads each set of numbers(CC number/Expiry date) followed by a tab and you have the correct field in Method highlighted then I don't see why it won't work.

    Re: Merchant Gateway-Card Swiper

Has anyone had success with anything similar to this, integrating a credit card swiper of any brand to be input into a Method mobile screen?

If not, brainstorming it seems my best other option is a card swiper that integrates with my payment gateway (Authorize.net), but not Method, forcing us to enter the payment into Method manually after receiving a transaction email from the card swiper service. This will cost me an additional 1% on the transaction which I'd clearly like to avoid, especially in light of the additional logging time if it's not automated.

    Any other ideas?

    Answer

    Hi VolcanoDiscoveryHawaii,

I haven't come across anyone using a Credit Card swiper, at least they didn't tell me they used one. I haven't actually used one myself so I'm not really sure how your swiper works and whether or not it speaks directly to Authorize.Net's VPOS solution. Method itself is a SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) platform so if you can plug in a USB credit card reader into your PC, open up the Receive Payment screen in Method, swipe the card, and it populates data onto the screen, then this may work for you. However, I doubt Credit Card readers work this way; but who know's, you may be able to customize how it works and interacts with websites

Is there anyone else in the Method Community who has experience with credit card swipers that integrate with payment gateways?

    Hey Philip,

Did you ever get more information in regards to your integration question?

    Hi ewelling,

We just implemented this for a client. They plugged a USB card reader into their computer. When they swipe a card it populates a whole bunch of info into a field on the screen including the card number and expiraration. We then grab what we need from that info and populate the card number and expiration month and year automatically.

Just note that while you are using a card swiper, you are not using the processor's swiper so it will be charged as a keyed entry which may have a higher fee.

Can you tell me what type of card swiper was used or recommend a type so that I can order one and try it?

    Thank you
