    Method Integration Engine

We have just moved to a hosted QuickBooks solution (virtual server).

The server spec was 650 MB's of RAM with a single 2.40 GHz CPU. The Method Integration Engine was using 100% of the CPU so we upgraded to 1.8 GB's of RAM and two CPU's on the advice of the hosting provider.

However the Integration Engine is still using 100% CPU. Are ther any other condition that would cause this?

    Thanks.

    Andy,

Your initial settings were definitely low.  Which version of QB are you using? What OS and other processes are running?

    OS is Server 2008 Datacentre R2 x64.

    QuickBooks is 2012 Pro.

Nothing else running really as it's a dedicated server for QuickBooks.

    Answer

    Andy,

Your RAM is still a little low for a Server 2008 Datacenter setup, but it does meet the minimum.  Are you sure its entirely the Method engine taking up 100% of the resources, or are 100% of the resources being used when its running/syncing?  Have you tried shutting down the Method engine and just running Quickbooks?  How is the performance when you do that?  I have a 3GHz P4 with 2GB of ram and it runs fine, however I'm running on Win7 Pro N.  I'd try running Quickbooks, doing some minor tasks without the engine running, and check the resources.  This might rule out QB as the problem.

I don't see how the engine could be using that many resources.  Have been able to perform a full sync?

    Re: Method Integration Engine

    Adam,

    thanks for the advice.

I was unable to shut down Method or Quickbooks as the server was completely unresponsive.

I scheduled a reboot with our hosting company and afterwards things returned to a manageable level.

We had performed a full sync last week on initia setup.

    Re: Method Integration Engine

    Adam,

    quick question.

Are there any optimizations that can be performed for the engine or QuickBooks to maximize performance?

    Thanks.

    Re: Method Integration Engine

    Andy,

There is nothing you can really do to optimize the sync engine.  You can go into Method and change the types of tranactions and the frequency of them when they sync to the Quickbooks.  By eliminating transactions that you don't use or reducing the frequency, you can reduce the amount of time the engine takes to sync.  This can be found on the Quickbooks > Synchronize tab link.
