    Mobile Optimization

I have been creating some mobile screens, or rather optimizing current screens for mobile.

    Most have worked without problems.

However I have edited the 'New Item' screen and optimized it for mobile to allow field engineers to add new service and inventory parts whilst on-site.

The new screen worked until I optimized it for mobile. Now when clicking on the 'Add New Item' button on the 'Mobile_Estimate' or 'FieldServiceMOB_WorkOrders' screens the Method Integration home page opens rather than the new screen. This is also true of the buttons in the new screen. Rather than opening the 'ItemService' or 'ItemInventroy' screens to add my new item the Method Integration home page opens.

I have also tested this by creating a screen from scratch rather than copying the 'New Item' screen and optimizing it.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Answer

    Hi andy,

Just an FYI we're currently revamping the Mobile portion of Method, I don't have an ETA for you but it is coming soon. The New Item screen won't work how you want it to work as a mobile page. Reason being is that the Show Screen In Popup, Go To Screen, and Go To Tab Link actions won't work with the current mobile design. So in order to add a new item you would either have to create a separate screen for each item type, or you can have them all as hidden sections on your own custom screen then have the particular sections be shown when a button is pressed. However, you won't see the current list of item types, you would just have to include the necessary fields to add the new item to the Item table and your Save button(s) would have to use the Insert Records into Table action instead of using Save Section.

This will take quite some time to customize. If it is a required function for your field reps, I would strongly suggest you speak with one of our in-house Consultants or a Method Solution Provider to scope out the details of the project and come up with the best course of action. Then you can either go ahead with the customization yourself of have the Consultant do it for you.

    Ashur, thanks for the response.

If I understand I can create a separate screen for each item type (we only need two) and optimize for mobile, add the links into the mobile tab these will then appear in the dropdown for mobile users. This negates the need to open these screens via a Popup or Go To action.

You got it! Remember not to include the item grids and only show the required fields on the screen. This will help reduce the loading time of the screen.
