Viewing multiple Calendars in the Dashboard

I have a few managers that use the Dashboard Calendar and Activities.  They like to view the calendars of their staff and have to select the same staff members everytime they log in.  Is there a way to save their settings to always show the "Weekly" view of these same 3 people?

    thanks,

    Thank you,

i would also be interested in default calender views be customisable, to select who is to be visible for a certain view on load,   does it save the "last view" you were on when logging out

We can certainly understand the pain in having to select the same users (or other filter options) each and every time you log in. Having a ‘default’ or ‘save last view’ preference could help out. Great ideas we’ll be sure to bring up in our meetings and keep you posted along the way.

The ability to view or merge all users in one column could be a bit messy. In a way, you can actually test this out on your own. In step 3 of the calendar properties change the Resources from ‘AssignedTo’ to ‘ActivityType’ and select the default resource. For example you can have a calendar show all WorkOrders regardless of who they are assigned to for each date. The only requirement is that Resource is a dropdown field; feel free to explore some options here.

There is obviously a demand to fine-tune the calendar. Let’s keep the feedback coming to help us determine a user friendly approach. As always we’ll keep you in the loop.

So here we are over 3 years later, and it looks like this issue still hasn't been addressed. I am having the same issue with having to select the people I want to see on the calendar each and every time I log in. I'm trying to customize the screen to fix this, but it still only allows me to select one User as a Resource. And I do not want them all to be in separate columns like the previous poster, I like the separate columns for scheduling purposes. Is there any update on this?

    Hi joshtodd,

Currently, there's no way to set a default view of the Assigned To option on the calendar as this is built into the calendar object. As Val stated above, you change the default resource but you can only have it set to 1 user. This is something that we are going to be improving in the future but I don't have an ETA for you.

I've tried to change to a "RESOURCE CALENDAR" and I chose ActivityType just like the webinar but I can't get anything to show up in the calendar at all.  Has anyone done any work on the calendar?  It seems like a really weak link in the Method chain!

    Hi Wavetec,

What ActivityType are you trying to display in your calendar? I customized my calendar object to only filter by the ActivityType of Work Order. This was done on Step 7 of 8, see screenshot below. You shouldn't change the default resource of AssignedTo (Step 3 of 8) as there are challenges in working with the Calendar object when changing that field.

I didn't add a filter at all.  Is that a requirement?  I just changed Assigned To to Activity Type as it states in the webinar.  No CHALLENGES are mentioned.  :)

I set the default to one of the types.  "installation" which is one I added to the main type table.

I'm not trying to see 1 type of activity for me, I'm trying to see ALL INSTALLATION activities on 1 Calendar.

Webinar says it can be done.  Real life says it can't...

    ...hope I'm wrong.

    :)

    thanks for the reply.

    Answer

Adding filters would be the best way to show your data the way you want it to appear, i.e. only records of a specific ActivityType. No challenges are mentioned but the current way the system is setup does not support multiple resources per calendar, so if you change one of your calendars to show a different resource (ActivityType) you'll have some challenges getting it to work the way you want it to plus this will globally change all your calendars to show this data as well. That's why we recommend keeping the resource as AssignedTo then just use filters to display data to your liking. As per my screenshot above you will only see Work Orders on this particular Calendar object. Hope this helps!

Re: Viewing multiple Calendars in the Dashboard

I am in the Middle of my 30 day trial and this is a deal breaker for me.

    What I want is simple:

On one screen a side by side calendar view  of all my teams schedule for the day by customer last name.  So, I can see each teams schedule for a given day.  I should then be able to see any "open spots" in any of the teams calendars/schedules.  So, if a prospect/customer calls, I can pull up the day's calendar for all my crews and easily be able to determine the open spots on any given day.  If we can't see and evaluate teams days side by side, I might as well do it in a spread sheet where you can view each teams day side by side???

In a spread sheet, but, not in Meth Int., I can also drag any customers to another crew schedule/calendar in a second.  This is basic for many many service companies that are going to customers' homes/business to work.

Can someone tell me what I'm missing?

Re: Viewing multiple Calendars in the Dashboard

    Hi Shawn,

You are able to do this is Method out of the box!

Using the Field Services Center >> My Calendar Tab Link, you can define filters which will enable you to see a teams or multiple teams schedules for a given period.

On the left hand side of the screen, you have the ability to filter what users / crews have been Assigned to a particular job.

Take a look at my example screenshot, notice how I can see the service requests I've created for NDM, NDM_C, and MethodSupport side-by-side.

    Specifically:

    1. Work orders that have been assigned to 3 users on Tuesday, October 22nd.
    2. I am able to visualize the availability of your employees when a client calls.
    3. I also can create work orders / service requests directly from the calendar and assign it to a user.

    Hope this helps,

    Nelson
