    Estimate Print Preview

An email came in from a user:

How do I change the currency symbol for one field on the Estimate print preview?

This must be done in the Method Report Designer. Open the Estimate report and click on the small white arrow on the correct field. Click the three dots button next to Format StringThe setting is probably set to "c2" which uses regional settings. Change this to "$0.00" or "$0". See the image below.

How do I change the tax percentage on the Estimate report?

This must be done in Quickbooks. Tax settings in Quickbooks can be found in Preferences>Sales Tax. In Method you should then be able to choose from a tax dropdown based on your QB settings on your Estimate screen. See the image below.

    Re: Estimate Print Preview

    Hi Jason,

I am the ProAdvisor working with this customer. In the orginal screenshot that my customer sent you of the Estimate he had the £ sign.

I logged into the Method account on one computer and the Estimate shows with Euro sign.  I logged in the same account on another computer and the Estimate shows with $ sign.

Yet I did not do any change in the Report Designer on that form.   So something else seems to override the currency symbol in Method.  Could it be Windows Settings ?

    Thanks !

    Hi Formation QB

If the Format String in the Report Designer is set to "c2" like I mentioned above, then the currency symbol will change depending on the Windows regional settings on the computer your using. To make the report always show the $ sign I suggest editing it in the Report Designer and making sure the Format String is set to "$0.00" or "$0". Hope this helps!

    Re: Estimate Print Preview

My regional settings are set to English Canada and it shows in Euros and the customers setting are also English Canada and it shows in Pounds.  I don't see the logic.

Anyhow I did change the Template in Report Designer as you explained and now the Preview no longer works.  Here is the message I get:

Did you save the modified report as a new report? Or did you modify the stock Estimate report?

On another note, I said in a previous post that the Windows regional settings will change the currency (if the Format String is set to "c2") but I believe it is actually the browser regional settings.

Do you mind sending me an email with your Account Name and contact information? Also, can you enable the MethodSupport user on your account? To do this, go to Customize>Users and in the Edit an Existing User section check the Active checkbox next to MethodSupport. From here I can sign into your account and take a look at the error.

    Re: Estimate Print Preview

    Hi Jason,

It is now working. It probably had to do with my browser, because I don't get this problem when view the report from another computer.

Bu I do have another problem with Report Designer with another form.  On a Sales Order I have added the column Other2 that we use to input the quantity shipped.  In Method it works well and we are able to input the quantity shipped for every item on each line. We also see it in QB. But when we print the SO the column Other2 shows the input of line item 1 on each line.  It seems to be repeating the digit entered in line 1 on every line and ignoring the digits entered in all the other lines.

So I went to the Report Designer to see what is wrong.  When Previewing that form in Report Designer I don't see anything in the Other2 column.   I tried removing the column and putting it back in but nothing works.  I am very confused as to why I see one thing in Method and another in Report Designer.

Can you give me some advice ?

    Thanks for your help !

    Answer

Glad you solved your previous issue!

The stock Sales Order report doesn't have the field Other2 included. Did you try and customize the report by adding it? Which field did you drag onto the report? In the Field List section of the Report Designer, the path of the field should be SalesOrderLine.SalesOrder.Other2. You must first open the SalesOrder group to access this field. See my screenshots below.

Best practice when editing a report is to edit a copy of the stock report. This prevents overwriting the original stock report and losing it. You'll then need to customize your Print Preview button to generate your customized report rather than the stock report. Hope this helps!

    Re: Estimate Print Preview

The path I used was SalesOrderLine.Other2. instead of SalesOrderLine.SalesOrder.Other2.  What is the difference between them ?

    Re: Estimate Print Preview

    Answer

The SalesOrderLine.SalesOrder.Other2 field is the child record that is associated with the current parent record. The SalesOrderLine.Other2 field is for child records as a whole. In this case, you want the former because you are looking for invoice items that are associated with the parent invoice record. Hope this makes sense.
