    Problems with Dropdown fields

I have created two dropdown fields on the 'Purchase Order' table.

One displays the 'Activity.RecordID' field to track the work order the purchase order is raised from, and one displays the .'Customer.FullName' field to track the customer the purchase order is raised for. The two fields are called 'Customer' and 'WorkOrder' respecively.

When I add the dropdown to the screen the only fields available to view are the 'Customer.ParentFullName' via Customer and the 'Activity.FollowUpFromActivityNo' via WorkOrder. Both of these are blank when selecting.

I can see that the 'Customer.ParentFullName' is a dropdown of the 'FullName' field, likewise the 'Activity.FollowUpFromActivityNo' is a dropdown of the 'RecordID' field. This behaviour though still seems not as expected.

    Answer

    Hi Andy,

I added the same fields to my PurchaseOrder table but did not experience the same behaviour you did. My Select Fields display as FullName via Customer and RecordID via WorkOrder (screenshots below). It's possible that someone had the table open while you were editing this screen. Ensure you close the table by click the Finished Editing Fields button prior to editing any screens, as it may cause some problems if left open.

If you haven't utilized the fields yet, then try deleting them and re-adding them to see if that helps. Let me know the outcome.

I had a similar situation happen to me earlier this week. I added the Fullname from the Entity table to an existing table, in my case it was the TeamMembers table. When I added the field to the screen and went to Step 4 of 6, like Ashur has pictured above the only option available was REP via Entity. There are already 5 existing drop downs from the Entity table so I checked those and they were also only giving the option of REP via Entity.

Eventually I checked the conflicts and there was one conflict of trying to add a new customer with the same name as an existing customer. Once I delete the conflict I went back in and it worked correctly. It almost as though the drop down is saying even though this Fullname field is supposed to be unique, it's not at the moment, so I'm not going to make it available.

Ashur, can you try creating a conflict by adding a duplicate customer and then go in and edit the drop down and see if you then get wierd behavior on Step 4?

Interesting and well worth checking. I'll try and replicate this on our Sandbox.

    Many thanks.

    Answer

    Hey Matt,

Thanks for the input. I wasn't able to replicate this behaviour through duplicate Entity's as well. I created duplicate Customer and Vendor records but my Select Fields still show the correct values. Spoke with the rest of the team and they agreed that it was most likely due to a table not being closed off prior to editing the screen, which is why we always suggest clicking the Finished Editing Fields button before doing anything else.

If you can replicate your scenario then please provide me the steps so that I can test it out and log a ticket if need be.

    Re: Problems with Dropdown fields

I checked for duplicate records but didn't have any.

I removed the field from the screen, deleted it from the table and refreshed before re-adding it. At first, in step 4 I had the 'RecordID' field selected as expected. However, on adding conditions to the dropdown and saving the link was broken.

    Answer

    Andy,

Go to Tables/Fields > click on the PurchaseOrder table > then click Finished Editing Fields. Do the same for the Activity table, then edit your screen and it should show the correct Select Field value.

    Let me know the outcome.

    Ashur,

this worked, although I had to carry out those steps a number of times before getting the expected result.

    Re: Problems with Dropdown fields

Thanks for the update Andy. Very strange case, I'm not sure what causes it. I was able to replicate similar behaviour but it stopped after I regenerated the Purchase Order and Activity tables, in that order. In any case, let us know if it returns to see if we can determine exactly what is triggering it.
