Merge Field doesn't fill in information for emails subject line.

    Merge Field doesn't fill in information for emails subject line.

    Company.CompanyName wont fill in the company name just displays Company.CompanyName

    Hi rodsstuff,

    Is this a stock template or a customized one?  Also, from which screens does this happen?

    Its in the emails. Send out an email with a merge field in the subject line and it doesnt populate with the information.

    From which screen is the email sent from?  Is it the custom screem you created?  Or is it a stock screen like the Invoice screen, estimate screen, Activity, Case or Opportunity or all of them?  Also is this a custom email template the you created or one of our stock notification templates?

    Sorry for all of the questions, but having an idea from which screens and templates this is occurring on will help me narrow down the issue.

    Custom screen CRM_EditLead(2)

    In the lead activity screen click send an email

    It is a custom custom email.

    Rodsstuff,

    Just to check that I'm understanding you correctly, you are in the Edit Lead screen, Activities section and clicking New Activity?  

    If so, that will bring you to a pop up of the New Activity screen.  The actions on the save button for that screen do not have the character function "Replace <<merge>> fields" for the Company table.  You will need to copy and edit the CRM_NewActivity screen to add this action.  This is why I'm assuming your other merge fields show correctly.  You can see from the screen that the Company table is not listed.

    You can take a look at one of those actions (32 -38), add an additional character function for the Company table.

    None of my emails populate the information. Even the default emails that method has included wont work. You have several emails that have the company name that is supposed to populate in the subject line. None do. No matter what the email or the merge field non of them work. If the company name field doesnt have a merge field, why does method have default emails with the company field in it in the subject line. For example look at CRM_Case UpdateForCustomer. It wont populate the company name either.

    The Company merge field is used on serveral screens, it just isn't included on the Activity screen.  As a test, could you create a case, and make sure to check off the "Email Case notification to user when saving?".  Save this case and see if you recieve and Case notification email.  The template for this notification also has the Company.CompanyName merge field.

    I would suspect the merge field will fill properly for that screen and template.  One thing to understand is that certain templates are meant for certain screens.  This is why only some merge fields are used in some screens.

    Let me know the results of this test and we can go from there.

    Hi rodsstuff,

    As per our discussion the screen is customized which is why you weren't seeing the Character Function actions in the button you were editing. I mentioned that you would need to link the Company table to the Activity table but that was incorrect. You'll only need copy the Character Function actions (one for the Email Subject and one for the Email Body) then edit them as needed. Take a look at the current ones on the screen to get an idea as to what needs to be changed. There is already a resultCompanyRecordID action result on the screen so remember this when editing your Character Functions as you'll need to utilize it. Also, ensure that you're placing the actions where they belong, not at the bottom of the action list. Here's what one of my Character Function actions looks like.
