Answer
Hey Ben B and Andy,
Update for you: The fix has been implemented so you should see it on any new webforms you create. I've tested it myself, on both basic and custom webforms, and am proud to announce that Activities/Cases/Opportunities are all now assigned to the Contact submitted on the webform.
Let us know if you come across any issues or have further inquiries.

Re: web to lead, opportunity and customer
Ashur,
great news, many thanks.
Does this mean that now when submitting my form (creating a lead and activity) that the contact details submitted for the customer table are automatically entered into the activity contact details? Or do I need to ensure that the same information is also entered into the activity table to create the link?
Thanks. Hope this makes sense.

Re: web to lead, opportunity and customer
Andy,
Yes the Contact information submitted on the webform will be used to automatically assign the Activity/Opportunity/Case. You don't need to create an additional link anywhere, hope this helps!

Fantastic. Previously we were entering the name, phone and email for both the customer and activity table.

Re: web to lead, opportunity and customer
Well that's one less set of data to worry about then If you're using a custom webform remember to include the required fields to link the Contact correctly (e.g. Entity) and utilize formulas to populate that field correctly. To understand what I'm referring to, your best bet would be to create a basic web form and copy the forumlas used in each field (on Step 8 of 9) to a text document. Then edit and use the ones you need for your custom webform.

Re: web to lead, opportunity and customer
Great news! I'll take out my actions that were doing this automatically for opportunities and not have to worry about manually setting the activities anymore.
thanks for the help!

Re: web to lead, opportunity and customer
Ashur,
great advice. I've replicated some of the formulas in the basic Web-To-Lead form and can confirm that my call-back and quote web forms are linking the activity to the contact and working perfectly. I have put together a Word document with the formulas and some screenshots if anyone is interested.

Re: web to lead, opportunity and customer
Our client has just noticed a small problem. Although the activity has a contact in the contact field it appears that the link to the lead is not complete until manually selecting the contact dropdown and clicking the contact name again. We only noticed as the new lead had no activities until carrying out this action.

Re: web to lead, opportunity and customer
Hi Andy and Ben,
I haven't been able to replicate this behaviour. Can you try to enter a lead with a Standard Web-to-Lead form and see if this works properly? You may be missing a field on your custom web forms, possibly the Entity field in the Activity table (see my screenshot below). Let me know what you find.

Re: web to lead, opportunity and customer
Andy,
Have you tried with a Standard Web-To-Lead form to see if it works? In your screenshot, I noticed that Activity - Entity is in step 2, but in the formula you reference the Customer - Name field in step 3. The web form will save in order so there might not be a Customer - Name value created yet when you are trying to reference it in step 2.

Re: web to lead, opportunity and customer
Hi Andy,
Unfortunately you will have to regenerate the code after you have fixed the web form and copy and paste it into your website again. Let me know if this works!
