Report Designer Master Table Customer Problem

    Hi,

I am having some difficulties with trying to link the data from the "Customer Table" to the new design template I made for the "Default Work Order Template (Print)". I just found out why I cannot use the Customer Table as the Master Table because it will not allow me to select it for the "Default Work Order Template (Print)". The problem is, I need a lot of customer information for my "Default Work Order Template (Print)", and using Activity as the Master Table doesn't allow me to access all the Customer Table information I need to link to the Work Order Template. When I try to add additional Detailed Tables when i create a new report, it gives me only 2 tables to choose from; "ActivityJobItems.ActivityNoRef" and "Estimate.ActivityRef".

    Please help!

    THANKS in advance

    Hello Jim,

My assumption is that your "Default Work Order Template(Print)" template is based off the activity table. Have you tried using Customer as your master table and then Activity.EntityRef as your detail table? I tried and I was able to see all the available fields on the right hand side.  The drawback to this is that you are creating a new template so whatever you have done on your Default Work Order Template(Print) will be lost. Let me know if this helps.

     Hi Jim,

Another option that is actually better for you if you are only looking to add customer fields to the work order, would be to add linked fields to your Activity table by using EntityRef. This will form the relationship between the tables so the fields will be available for you to add to your report. This way you can continue to use your Default Work Order Template(Print) template.

In case, you want to learn more about the Entity table you can refer to this post: http://www.methodintegration.com/cs/forums/p/454/1432.aspx#1432

    Hi Amanda,

Thank you for your response. However, I have a few more questions.

How do I add the Entity Table to my existing modified Work Order Design? What steps do I need to do in order to get this "Entity Table" linked to my Design, using Activity as the Master Table.

I tried creating a Design with the Customer table as the master table but when I try to change the Default Template for "Default Work Order Template (Print)", there is a pop up window that says "Shows Templates with the MasterTable of Activity", I assume this is why I cannot select the Design table I created using Customer as the Master table because it will not allow me to select it so it doesn't even show that design as an option.

Sorry if my post is confusing,

    Thanks soo much!

     Hi Jim,

Basically, your goal is to see fields from the Customer table (Entity table) when you open up your "Default Work Order Template" (DWOT).  In order to do this you have to go into your Activity table since the DWOT is based off that table and add linked fields using the EntityRef and then select fields you would like to add. After which, those fields should then be available in your DWOT template on the list of available fields you can add to your report. If you are still stuck, you can book some consulting time with your Consultant and we'll go over it with you over the phone if you like.  Hope this helps.

    Answer

    Hi Amanda,

I got it working! I am glad I did not have to start over and make a new template just to get the customer information linked to my design. The person who made the EntityRef is awesome.

Thank you very much for the help.
