Method Community

Is it possible to create an invoice from an estimate? I searched around within the forums, but I couldn't find any info on this. Thanks.

I also forgot to ask how to create a purchase order from either a sales order or invoice. I appreicate your time.

      In Method, you can not create an invoice from an estimate because it is an SDK limitation.  You can get more information on the limitation HERE.  I am assuming your are on QuickBooks desktop.  The order you can do is Estimate > Sales Order > Invoice. For Invoices/Sales orders to purchase orders, it would also be a customization. I don't believe this transition is regular.  It would require actions to copy over everything from an invoice or sales order to a purchase order.

Ok. Thanks. Where do I create the actions to copy over from an invoice to a sales order? Not sure where to do this in Method.

      On the estimates screen, there is a button called More actions....  Click it and you will see an option to Create Sales Order.  Click it and it will automatically create a Sales Order for you from the Estimate.

     For the sales order, there is a button at the bottom of the screen called Create Invoice... . When clicked, a pop-up will appear letting you choose line items to include in your new invoice.

    You would need customization to go backwards from an invoice to a sales order.  It can possiblely be done but involves a lot of actions.

Sorry Greg. My mistake. I meant to write how do I copy from an invoice or sales order to a purchase order? You mentioned originally I would have to customize what fields copy over. Ideally I would like to copy over only the fields that I have checked via the line item check boxes. Thanks.

   It would be a very involved process.  I had the Estimate to Sales Orders actions in mind.  If you look at the QuickBooks_Estimate screen and the Create Sales Order actions in the More Actions... menu, you will see the actions.  The most important is Insert Records Into Table. 

    The Sales Order to Invoice is more complicated because you are choosing individual line item records, not fields.  The screen is QuickBooks_SalesOrder_CreateInvoice.  There are many actions here and I don't know much about them.  

   If you are looking to do this, I would talk to one of our Method Solution Providers or Method Partners.  They may have a better way of building a system and workflow that meets your needs.  This is a complex customization.
