    Report group by week

    Can I group a report by week?

    In other words I have a work order report with sumaries for the days (mon, tues, wed, etc), but if a seleted a time period of 4 weeks, can I have the report to give me totals on a weekly basis?

    Greetings Marcelo.

    I have had the same issue where I wanted a week or somtimes a week in a half.  Sometimes i have to drill down reports by project type, who did it and etc.  Was really confusing.  So instead of comming up with a report of each report what i did is create a grid.  This grid contains all sorts of data that I  need. All i do is narrow down what I am looking for. The grid contains start and end times so i would put the dates of start and ends and the grid would show only that information.  If i wanted a papercopy i created a generic report from the grid. 

    You could create a grid just for your porpose. That way you just click on your custom made grid and the information is already there. Justa  Idea.

    Marcelo, would John's suggestion work for you? You could potentially do it in Report Designer as well but it is too complex to go through on the forums. Another option would be to reach out to one of our Consultants.

    I don't see how can I do it in a grid either, the issue is not selecting a particular period od time, the issue is displaying data in a weekly basis.

    For example if I want to see the data for the last 3 months, but I want to see it in a weekly basis so I can compare week 1 to week 2, etc

    Hi Marcelo

    Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find an easy way to group by week. In Report Designer there is no function for GetWeek or similar so dynamically grouping by week will be difficult. I know you can group a report using the GetMonth() function but that doesn't sound like it will be at a detailed enough level for what you require.


    It might be possible to calculate a value for the week a work order belongs to using Calculated Fields in Report Designer but I don't know how you'd go about doing it.


    It is possible in Method (with a fair amount of customization) to calculate a numeric value for the week a work order belongs to so you could possibly use something like that to assign a value to a custom field. Unfortunately, that won't be user friendly as it would have to be run manually before you run the report.

    Marcelo and Jeff,

    in designer, if you use a Pivot Grid there is a "Grouping Interval" for a Row/Column value - which contains all sorts of Date Values (week, month, etc). When in Dessigner, put the "Pivot Grid" up in the Page Header or Group Header, so that your work orders summarizes correctly. It will summarize all of your work orders by the period you request.  Once developed, you can display in Method.   On your screen in Method you can filter for months you want to retreive and "builList" for your report. (at least thats one way to do).  Hope that helps.  People forget about Pivot Grids and it is a very powerful reporting tool.

    Lets look at this another way.  Right now Method has a way of grouping data becasue a WO has a day. For example Monday.  So when you want a daly report method takes all the mondays for a date range and totals them up.  Pretty simple stuff. 

    Now you want weeks and right now Method dosent have way of figuring out what a week is.  All it knows is Monday or tuesday or October or 2014. Two things are possible

    1. Make up a new field in the WO line items table and call the field weeks.  The tricky part how do you tell Method what is week 1 or week 2?  A programmer could prop help you there.

    2. Tell the report to add up every 7 days then repeat.  I am thinking a scrpit would be needed in this but I am not sure.

    John,

    You got me thinking. Add a Calendar Table with each record as a date( all dates out 2 yrs so won't have to redo) and then add week and Month fields and fill in.  Easily done in Excel and then upload to Method.  This is a technique used in reporting all of the time.  then "link" the calendar table to WO date and you have your week for grids, reporting, etc.
