Customized Screen reverting to default settings

I am trying to learn how to customize some of our screens.

I started with the Estimate screen.  I copied it and renamed it so that I could start editing it.  The first thing everyone in my company wanted was for that little checkbox in Estimate screens that reads "Wait for Sync Approval?" to be checked by default.  No biggie, I thought -- I went into my new estimate screen, found that field, and changed the tick box to default to ON.

I opened the screen and it appeared to have worked.  HOWEVER, the moment I select a customer under "Customer Job," any changes that I made to the screen revert back to their defaults -- 'Wait for Sync Approval' goes back to being unchecked.

Is there something else I should be looking at, whenever a screen has data that can pre-populate other fields?

I figured I'd look to see if maybe that value was getting changed as part of an action when Custoemr Job was filled, but I also can't figure out how to open the Actions screen.

    Hi sbonner,

You'll want to take a look at the actions for the Text Change event on the Customer:Job dropdown. Here's a screenshot:

As you can see from the action list, the dropdown is configured to set Wait for Sync Approval to Yes for Customer Leads and No for Customers, once the text in the dropdown is changed (once a value is selected). This is to ensure that, by default, transactions do not sync to QuickBooks for Leads (since this process would convert them to a Customer), but that they still sync over for Customers.

Basically there's two ways you can change this behaviour:

    1. Change the action listed at number 6 to set Wait for Sync Approval to Yes (easier, since you're changing less and it makes it easier to go back)
    2. Remove actions 1-2 and 4-7 (more efficient, since otherwise this event would be performing 6 actions for no reason)

Personally I would recommend option 2.

    Hope this helps.

    Hey Justin,

Thank you!  This is exactly what I was looking for, and I was just not looking at the right fields.

I am having to tackle the wealth of customizaion requests from my company, and am learning this on the fly.  Besides the webinars and help files, do you have any additional sources of in-depth documentation on customization?

    Hey sbonner,

Currently we only have the Customization section of our Help Center and list of webinars as online resources for training on customization. If you'd like, you can book some time with a member of our Professional Services team for some training on more in-depth customization. If you're going to be doing customization for your company going forward, it might be a wise investment.

Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in.
